Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorène and Marine, from L Y S.
Lorène and Marine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We are two twin sisters from France. Music has always been a big part of our lives, and it became way more serious than just a passion very early. We started taking singing and guitar lessons at the age of 12, and we grew up with the dream to come live in the USA one day, to study and make music. At 21, we finally moved in LA to study Music Production and Music Business at UCLA Extension. We are currently working on several music projects, releasing songs from time to time – you can find our music on Spotify or Soundcloud, and you can follow our journey on Instagram too!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The fact that we are from a little town in France was the first obstacle. When you say that you want to be a singer/songwriter, people don’t react the same way as they do here in the USA. We always knew that we had to leave if we wanted to grow musically, so we practiced and worked hard and we saved money, as much as we could until we were finally able to come here. The fact that we did not know anyone in the industry was a challenge too, but the last two years has been very enriching, we met a lot of people, we learned and we grew a lot musically and personally. Music/entertainment is not an easy path, and there will always be obstacles along the way, but we are driven and passionate and we won’t give up until we make our dreams come true!
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
We are a pop duo, two sisters sharing the same dreams and passion, making music together! We sing and write, we topline for DJ’s, we also do collaborations with other songwriters and producers.
What sets us apart from others? Probably the fact that we are twins, and that we are from France. We sing both English and French. We have to say, a few people have warned us that our french accent could be a problem, but we rather see it as a strength. This is a part of us, of our story: the two French sisters who left everything they have always know behind to start a new life in LA and work on their dreams!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We are very grateful for all the people who have helped us music-wise, who gave us opportunities, taught us and collaborated with us. But the people we really want to talk about here, are our parents: they have always been so supportive, they always believed in us and in our crazy dreams. It has never been easy for them too, but they have always helped us as much as they could (financially, mentally…) and we are very grateful for them, forever. Making a living with our music is our dream, and making them proud is for sure a big motivation!
