Meet Marie Quinn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie Quinn.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up in a culturally rich area like Los Angeles and being exposed to various odd modern arts from a young age helped to frame my artistic aesthetic. It’s this aesthetic along with the desire to tell stories that are outside of the box that drives me to create. With a background in advertising design and media arts, I’ve been able to diversify my interests and apply my creativity to a few different areas. The importance of properly showing the diversity within Los Angeles and other locations in film and other arts is one of the main goals I hope to show within my work. “It is our differences that we find interest in as humans.” I always like to say. Through my work, I see the possibilities to help expose people to stories they might not normally see.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have never heard of this thing you speak of “smooth road”, but on the serious side, I believe that it is in all the challenges in life that you learn from. Growing up as a minority in many different categories really shapes one’s world. It is still a struggle, I along with many of my peers are still working to overcome. I am also working towards trying to improve the current factors that are making entering the entertainment industry harder to break into if you are a minority/ Woman. It’s a slow process, but I hope to eventually help break these doors down using my unwavering perseverance.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
So in the days of needing someone that can do it all, I’ve learned to make the most of the different arts that I have cultivated over the years. I have always found it funny to hear some people refer to this as being a “Predator”, AKA, producer, director, and editor. I love being able to take a project and get it done from start to finish. I have done this on three of my most recent projects. I feel by doing this it does set me apart from others who just specialize in one field or another. Why hire someone that only can focus on one area when you can hire somebody that can wear multiple hats and do an exceptional job of it as well.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
There have been a lot of initiatives being started up lately aimed at improving diversity in the entertainment industry. I hope to see these actually do some good and help at improving the situation. These won’t work though if we as a minority don’t take advantage of them, also we need to spearhead our own initiatives. We must work together to obtain the changes we seek and make our own opportunities as well if we’re not seeing the ones we so desperately need. I am working towards taking the steps necessary to make this happen for myself and others with the types of projects I am currently working on and towards.
