Today we’d like to introduce you to Maricela Alicia Chamagua.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Maricela Alicia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been planning events for the last 8 years. For a long time, event planning was a part time gig since I was also teaching at the time, another passion of mine. Fast forward to 2014, after ending my teaching career in China and expecting a baby, I was positive that I had to dive in and focus all of my energy into my business. I then re-branded my company and began pushing harder than ever before. This meant working at a venue as a sales coordinator, doing some freelance hair styling work, being a David’s Bridal stylist, studying the art of flowers and creating centerpieces for clients, bartending a couple of events, attending lots of networking events and workshops, building my vendor network and devoting hours upon hours into creating my brand. It is an everyday hustle that is completely worth it. I absolutely LOVE being an event planner and having knowledge and experience in the multitude of areas is a benefit I do not take for granted.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. Owning your own business means long working hours which in turn can sometimes make you question your sanity! Fortunately for me, I have amazing family and friends who support my career decisions and who do not take it personally when I cannot attend a birthday or other personal gatherings. I think the most difficult challenge for me has been being away from my 2 &1/2-year-old as often as I am. He is the highlight of my day every day and so when I do not get to see him or kiss him goodnight it truly breaks my heart but in the end, I am doing it for him anyway. I constantly remind him that I love him and make sure he knows that I will see him again when the sun comes up. I’m positive he will thank me later.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Alicia C. Creative – what should we know?
Alicia C. Creative specializes in creating an individualized event for each client. It is important for us to get to know our clients well enough to create everything they have dreamed of and beyond. With the wedding planning business booming in the last couple of years, it is a priority of ours to make sure that every client feels like a part of our family. I think connecting and building that relationship is a top priority and not because we force it to be but because we love it that way. I take pride in being personable and friendly. Turning clients into friends is the easiest part of the job, everything else falls flawlessly into place.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am ridiculously excited for the future. This year, we launched destination weddings in Mexico. We will be out there this summer and fall and are pushing forward with more destination weddings in the upcoming years. The uphill battle is a challenge I am ready to take on!
