Meet Mariangela Nikolakopoulou of Mariangela’s Closet in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariangela Nikolakopoulou.

Mariangela, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in Europe and since I can remember myself, I always liked to dress up in beautiful clothes and shoes…especially shoes!!!!

I took history of fashion courses and was trained in luxury outfits. Then I went ahead and studied biology and took a PhD in Neurosciences. It was shocking to me, after attending all these scientific conferences and mingling with highly educated people, to realize that the majority had no idea how to dress and present themselves in a professional manner that could potentially help them attract more attention to their science. I understand that successful professionals are busy and have no time, but then, why would anyone need me, right?

Since everyone said I had a talent putting outfits together, matching colors, and choosing the most amazing shoes ever (bring it on Carrie Bradshaw!!!!), I decided to start helping people with their styling. Shopping has always been my passion and I first started by helping friends and family. Then I realized I that I can help more people with their shopping needs. That’s how Mariangela’s Closet became a reality…

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely it has not been a smooth road, there are tons of challenges. There is a lot of competition, getting a clientele is very difficult, and online marketing is not always working. One needs a lot of networking, and in my case that I also have my scientific career, it is very difficult to find the time and opportunity to get myself out there.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mariangela’s Closet – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I discuss first with my clients how I work, what criteria I use to pick up styles, colors, patterns etc. I explain in advance how I can fulfill a client’s needs. My job is not to convince my clients into buying clothes that they don’t like or are not for them, or choosing styles that make them feel uncomfortable; instead, I am known for encouraging my clients to purchase outfits that they represent their personality. The most important trait of a successful fashion stylist is to put the client’s needs above all else. I have worked with customers that want to look nice, but don’t have the time to shop, or cannot put an outfit together. I have clients that hate shopping as an experience. In that case, we go on a brief shopping trip to figure out size/colors that suit them and afterwards, I do most of the shopping online for them (make a portfolio and they can go through it at their convenience) or I do all the shopping in store for them and deliver the items to try at the comfort of their homes. My regular customers’ age range is from 18 to 65 years old and I have worked with straight, gay, petite, and plus size clients. I am confident I can cover all styling needs a client may have. I want my clients to feel excited after going shopping with me, because, at the end of the day, it’s all about them.

I love the vibe, the diversity and shopping! I hate traffic, could definitely do without it…

Pricing:

  • Personal shopping/closet audit is $100/hr, the more hours I help you with your needs, the more you save.
  • Online shopping is $90/hr.
