Meet Maria Vartanian of MV Artistry in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Vartanian.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I graduated with a Fine Arts Degree where I majored in painting. Never really wanted to pursue a career as a freelance painter as the role felt too solitary for my quirky personality.

So I put the two together and pursued a career in the beauty industry. I enrolled in an extensive beauty (esthetics) course for a year then followed that with another year of Makeup course at CJMD Makeup Design and then got formally trained with the best in the business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The initial challenges were the early mornings followed by very long days in studio or on location, by the end of it you have no energy for anything so that can play some havoc on your personal life.

The challenge I face now is much harder than the latter as moving to a new country and having to start all over again with no network base, as this industry is highly reliable on the people you know.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about MV Artistry – what should we know?
I’m a freelance professional Makeup & skincare Artist and I started my business MV Artistry in 2010 in Sydney Australia where I specialized in Commercial Print/Advertising/Look Books/Weddings.

What I’m known for is my particular focus in skincare and how it directly relates to the application of makeup, the products I use and the Technics I apply are specifically chosen for their synergies.

As a sole trader, I’m most proud of remaining true to myself and to my clients and providing a service which is individually tailored to each specific person. This is the quote which I live by and try to instill into my clients; “Be yourself as everyone else is already taken” – Oscar Wilde

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I highly believe in being an honest & open individual with empathy & humility and a decent amount of politeness and friendliness.
