Meet Maria Pinzon of 1st Advantage Business Solutions in Downey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Pinzon.

Maria is one of the founders of 1st Advantage Business Solutions. She has 25 years’ experience working in business administration and management. During that time, she has managed more than 120 different companies. Her mission in the business world is to help owners and entrepreneurs run a successful operation within their business.

She is currently the Chief Financial Officer overseeing the profitability of all areas of the firm and each client. Her specialty is the attention to detail she brings to each project.

Her analytical skill provides for the true essence of each problem to be exposed and then create an action plan to resolve each issue. She is also in charge of the day to day operations at the company, providing the guidance that the team needs to meet every deadline and complete every project to the satisfaction of each client. She also brings a skill set including extensive customer service, time management, and database management.

Before 1st Advantage Business Solutions, Maria was a tax preparer for 14 years providing accounting and payroll services during off season. Her experience with 600 plus clients during that time allowed her to see and learn about all types of industries in the business world. During that period, she learned about the great need there is in business operations and management which are the foundation of every business. With this desire, Maria sold her business and went to work for Merriwood Management Company where for three years she learned firsthand how managing is done. During that time is when Maria’s passion for helping businesses succeed grew even more and 1st Advantage Business Solutions was born.

Maria is currently attending the University of Phoenix on a full scholarship to complete her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management with a special certification for small businesses. Her academic efforts have earned her a spot on the National Society of Collegiate Scholars since 2014. However, her greatest accomplishment is her family, she is a mother of three and has been married for 21 years.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Those that say having a business is easy are in for a big surprise, and I am strongly in disagreement with those that say they are self-made. No one gets to the top without help from the people around them. However, if you like a great challenge, then starting your own business is the best way to satiate that craving. One of the biggest mistakes I made in the early stages of my career was to be spontaneous with my business. There are but a handful of people who were spontaneous and survived the difficult years of a business and now have a thriving, prosperous corporation. To have a successful operation, I learned that you must be strategic; planning is the key to success. You need to be real about the road you are about to embark; obstacles and challenges are part of the journey, and it’s best to embrace and learn from them. My first business was a tax preparation office, and although I liked what I was doing, it was not fulfilling because I felt that I should be doing something else. I had that business for 14 years before starting my second business offering business management services. I made a lot of mistakes that cost me a lot of money. However, they were the best lessons of which prepared me for my second business where I feel that I am fulfilling my calling in the business world. The best advice I can give aspiring entrepreneurs is to be patient and strategic. Don’t wing it unless you want to fail. On the contrary, make a plan, and although you will not follow it entirely, this plan will serve as your accountability partner, reminding you that while it hasn’t been easy, you are reaching the milestones you created. As a business manager, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and speak to many owners and CEOs, and they all share the same idea of having your own business; freedom but at a price worth paying.

1st Advantage Business Solutions Inc was founded on the principle of providing the best customer service. We want to hear from our clients; we care to know what are their biggest challenges and what are the gaps that we need to fill. We have equipped every staff member to fulfill all the administrative needs of our owners but most importantly to meet them where they are in their journey and help them get there. We become part of their team, and we share their goals. I specialize in discovering the true essence of each problem and then create an action plan to resolve each issue by using my analytical skills. However, our clients love how we become part of their team and walk hand in hand with each one of them to reach their goals.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We’ve been in business for six years; however, we have yet to sign on “THE” account.

We have been planning and getting ready for the big day when that will happen, and I can say that we are closer than we’ve ever been. We are ready for the biggest project we have overtaken, and I can say that being strategic and planning for this journey is about to pay off. I can encourage my fellow entrepreneurs to believe in what they have to offer in their business, work on it and improve it until you’ve reached your intended target.
