Meet Marcella Hurd of The Rose Collection in Antelope Valley/Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcella Hurd.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Back in 2016, I started an online boutique called “Picture my Beauty”. However, it didn’t last long because I gave up after a few orders and not seeing results fast enough. I also always had a job/s since I was 17 and as time goes by I then realized that wasn’t the life I wanted for myself so I then decided to start a business for myself once again.

A long time friend had introduced me to cluster lashes, I fell in love with them and use to wear them all the time and even use to put them on my other friends. So that’s how I got into starting individual lashes. My brand was called “Rose Eyelash Extensions” for about a few months, then I immediately rebranded and that’s how “The Rose Collection” came about. I knew I wanted to offer more than just eyelash extensions and I have accomplished that and I’m still not even halfway finished.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have definitely endured a few challenges along the way. Back when I first started, I used to be a mobile lash tech, so I would go to all my clients. I would literally drive everywhere and I drove my car until the wheels came off, literally, no pun intended. Being that, that was the way I operated my business and with the car deciding to work one minute and the other minute it’s not was very challenging. Another challenge that I still to this day battle with is letting my personality allow me to miss opportunities. I’m a very introverted person and I would let that get in the way of networking and putting myself out there to be seen or heard but I can say I’ve gotten so much better over time.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Rose Collection – what should we know?
The Rose Collection specializes in enhancing eyelashes, from individual extensions, lash lifts and strips. The goal is to have every single customer/client to come to The Rose Collection. A one-stop shop! More products and services will be added to accommodate everyone and that I am most proud about because most people or companies get too comfortable and never want to evolve. I can honestly say I’ve felt every emotion there is by building my brand up. I make sacrifices, risks and even get knocked down but I stay consistent and trust the process and that’s what sets me apart from others.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Destany Thomas, my lifetime mentor and lash instructor. She believed in me from the moment I did my first set! Her and her old partner even asked if I wanted to work in their shop and Destany still gives me the opportunity to work in her shop. I’ve done events with her and she’s put my face and brand out there because like I said, she unconditionally believes in me. My friends and family, they were and still are the first to hear me out when I’ve pitched a new idea, new products, new service and etc. My clients/customers are always so supportive as well, they even pitch ideas to me and I make it happen. Them being the word of mouth and with how big social media is, they are always bringing in new faces. Lastly, God, I put all my faith into him and I trust him so of course, he deserves the utmost credit.
