Meet Marc Posch of Marc Posch Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Posch.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marc. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Downtown LA – The place where creatives thrive.

Los Angeles has been my home for almost 20 years. Having lived in various ‘hoods, LA to me was always an urban sprawl looking for a unifying identity, a cluster of communities trying hard to look like a city. This all changed a few years ago, when Downtown LA was rediscovered. First by artists and party people, and fashion people thrown into the mix. Then eventually the hipsters would move into the loft spaces and empty warehouses which kicked of a massive transformation. This all led to a revived urban culture, representing the full range of our society, from the gutter to the stars, from Skid Row to glitzy rooftop bars in the Old Bank District. An ethnic and social blend unlike anything that can be found in the City of Angels.

We run a design and digital marketing firm. About a year ago we decided to move into a loft on Gallery Row, looking for affordable office space – bust mostly with the hopes of finding an inspiring environment. As creatives, we are always defined by our surroundings. Designers cannot thrive in a vacuum. Everything we do is a reflection of how we grow up and where we live.

It turns out it was the best decision we could have made. With branding and digital marketing, everything we do revolves around customer experience, target audiences and personas. Whenever we discuss a project and its demographics, all we have to do is spend some time out in one of the many street cafes and let people parade by. It’s as if we can dive instantly in to a real world situation, rather than discussing likes or dislikes in the abstract: Would she use our soap? Would he purchase that soft drink? How can we sell this product to that lady over there?

What makes downtown so unique and vibrant is also that we live in a phase of transformation. Change is the only constant element down here. Every time I walk through the streets, a new coffeeshop has opened, a new bar is announced, and some run down building is boarded up with a Coming Soon sign pasted across. Graffitis come and go over night, a farmers market pops up one morning, only to be replaced by a film shoot in the afternoon. Downtown is like a living organism, constantly spitting out shiny new life onto the boulevards, while the old disappears quietly in the dark alleys.

Downtown LA is the place where creatives thrive. It’s a place I love to call home.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Post recession we had to migrate from being a design studio to become more of a business/marketing consultancy. This was a major transition for us and it has helped us define new clients and markets

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Marc Posch Design – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
What sets us apart is that we come from various backgrounds in regards to talents, experience, and ethnicities. Our clients are from Europe, the US all the way to China. I was born in Switzerland, raised in Germany and have been living in LA for many years We enjoy working across time zones and cultures, helping Chinese entrepreneurs with research and design strategy to bring their product to an unknown market, or translate a European customer’s vision for a trade show in the US.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Helping start ups and aspiring entrepreneurs in the tech and manufacturing sectors grow their business, and in return grow our own business. We grow by helping others grow.
