Meet Marc Lessman of The Dinner Detective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Lessman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marc. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Our Grand Opening was in Culver City, CA in November of 2004. We started at a little Italian Restaurant, and things grew from there! Our second location opened in Long Beach, CA aboard the Grand Romance Riverboat, and is a cruise around the ocean. Then came our Orange County location. Now we have grown to 52 locations around the country, and that number will continue to rise as the year goes on.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Doing a live show is never easy. We have had our share of struggles throughout the years. Whether it has been audience members getting too drunk, or fire alarms going off in the hotel ballroom we are performing in, we follow the phrase “The show must go on!” and always find our way to the end of the show. Our events are very interactive with the audience – and when you give an audience member a few drinks, and an opportunity to speak in front of a crowd, you NEVER know what they are going to say! Even our actors are entertained week in week out, for every show is completely different from the last one.

Please tell us about The Dinner Detective.
Our immensely popular murder mystery shows are set in the present day. Unlike other murder mystery dinner shows (or just dinner shows in general), with The Dinner Detective, you and your guests will not find themselves staring at cheesy costumes, there will be no recited campy dialogue and certainly no hokey song and dance. Our performers are dressed just like everyone else, leaving all of the guests to suspect who is a part of the show and who is not! All scripts are based on actual cold cases and are created in house. From the get go, the guests are seated with the performers and may not even realize it until they die… the performers, that is! Our Detectives enter the room, proceed to interrogate guests, find clues and start the investigation. This allows our guests to socialize with and interrogate each other while deciphering real life-based clues. This adds to the interactive and unique nature of our events. At the end of the night, prizes are awarded to the Top Sleuth who solves the crime!

Having produced tens of thousands of public and private shows and entertained tens of thousands of customers since our Los Angeles grand opening in November 2004, The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Dinner Show is at the forefront of interactive dinner show entertainment. We specialize in everything from Fortune 500 company parties to individuals celebrating their birthdays and anniversaries. We are very flexible and willing to work with every group, especially if it would allow us to fit into your budget and make this a truly memorable and affordable event for you and your guests! We strive to engage all of your senses from the moment you walk through our doors and meticulously keep our focus on your overall entertainment experience. We will make every effort to have your night with The Dinner Detective be a night to remember!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We can’t say that we would really change much. The company is growing quickly and we have learned from all of the bumps in the road. Without those learning curves along the way, we might not be where we are today.
