Today we’d like to introduce you to Manu Beker.
Manu, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve loved pop music since I can remember, in fact when I was around five I begged my dad to take me to a Backstreet boys show in my home town of Mexico City. That ended up being my first concert experience but I didn’t think that years later, I’d be pursuing a career in their field. Sure enough through my early teenage years, I started playing guitar and singing songs of my own. A couple of years later, I was performing them live at local venues. This love of pop music I have that led me to that first backstreet boys concert has slowly evolved through the years into a love of pop songwriting and performance.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No path is easy to walk but as far as I’m concerned, I’ve been extremely blessed to have the amount of support I have. Both my parents have encouraged me to pursue my career in music and have been to every single one of my shows. That being said, a career in the arts field comes with a lot of fear and anxiety, but I figure as long I have the opportunity to do what I love, there’s no reason not to. Life is too short to not do what makes us happy.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a pop musician, which involves many things but for me that means mainly songwriting and performance. I have dedicated years and years of my life to honing my skills as a songwriter, a singer and a performer and those are the fields in which I believe I stand out.
I mainly collaborate with artists, producers and other songwriter to craft catchy songs that can stand the test of time, pack an emotional punch and compete in quality with the A-listers of the industry.
When I’m not doing that, however, I’m composing, producing or performing material of my own.
But whether I’m writing for other artists or for myself, my goal is always to create something that makes people happy and understood when they listen.
On the side, I also create scores for short films, movies and tv!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I think it would have to be playing with my best friend in his back yard. We’re both artists to this day and we even collaborate from time to time.
