Meet Malibu Clothing Designer: Inga Nataya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Inga Nataya.

Inga, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I found it difficult to find anything original and flattering to wear, so I started making my own clothing, as well as costumes for my theater performances when I was about 11 years old, Driven by passion for embroideries and other intense handcrafts, regal styling and freedom loving artistic personality, I with my father Mark started a brand called Nataya (which is my middle name) in 1997, Our dresses are known as vintage inspired with bohemian flare. Over the years I have combined many art movements and time periods in my collections, always adopting a variety of handworks dated as early as b.c. into modern styling.

Has it been a smooth road?
my personal biggest challenge was to stay consistent with styling, as a creative person I felt compelled to experiment with design. Sometimes the changes in styling from one collection to the next were too abrupt for end costumer to accept.

What are your plans for the future?
Besides main Nataya collection and custom made bridal collection Bride In Vintage, we are in a process of launching two new labels Age of Love and Romantique, Age of Love will consist of colorful dresses with bohemian flair, and Romantique a detailed and antiquities (circa 1901) inspired line. I am always thirsty for creating, consequently I am always looking for new endeavors that can satisfy this thirst.

Let’s dig a little deeper into your story. What was the hardest time you’ve had?
Pregnancy was hard, I didn’t feel beautiful, therefore it was difficult for me to create beautiful things, I found myself liking odd harsh colors and shapes, collections were still original, but not beautiful. It was not easy for me to find a path back to where I left off, but my team and my family (we are a family business by the way) helped me to gain my feminine security (not sure how else to call this) and start moving towards beauty

Do you ever feel like “Wow, I’ve arrived” or “I’ve made it” or do you feel like the bulk of the story is still unwritten?
I worked for another company for 4 years before starting Nataya inc. towards the end of my 3rd year in that company I understood my designer strength, so I deviated into my own label, so I could do exactly what I would like to do in terms of creativity, therefore Nataya took off right away.

Dear Inga, I am in love with your “Venetian” vintage bridal dress in ivory, but no one seems to carry it anymore. I can’t find anything similar to it and I don’t want anything else. Can you help me find just one “Venetian” wedding dress in a size small?
