Today we’d like to introduce you to Maleka Ellis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Maleka. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Funny enough I’m a new wedding business, but not new to weddings. I started off as freelance editor at a different wedding house in 2013. I worked there for three years and when that company broke apart. I realized I wasn’t done with the wedding business and started my own company and thus the Siren & Co was born. My story is not a complicated one, I just felt like starting my own business was something that I needed to do!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d be lying if I said it was a smooth road. My biggest struggle to this day is my work-life balance. I still have a full-time job, and I’m still learning how to juggle my life. Between my 9-5, my wedding business, and my love life its a challenge. I’m losing sleep and the meaning of free time, but I know it’s worth it. My life is full of unexpected twist and turns and I’m learning to face them one day at a time.
The Siren & Co. – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a wedding videography company, specializing in adventure weddings. Our tagline is “For the Adventurous and madly in love.” and we mean it! I am the owner and lead editor and I have a team of videographers to help me shoot and capture weddings. I love making an impact on our couples lives. We take pride in building a relationship with our couples, making sure their next adventure starts off with a smile and an everlasting memory.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our proudest moment was when we received our first review. I was beyond excited, I’m pretty sure I literally jumped for joy. With all the challenges I’ve faced, it felt like the greatest victory I could ask for. Being recognized as a company made me realize how important it is to keep pushing forward.
