Meet Malcolm Bowen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malcolm Bowen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Malcolm. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a child, I loved to entertain and have fun. When I got around 9 or 10, I realized that I wanted to be in the entertainment industry and I asked my mother to help me get a talent agent. After that fell through, I turned to modeling, which helped boost my self-esteem and allowed me to see myself a little better. In college, I studied theater and after graduation, I moved to LA, which is where I’m currently based, to further pursue my career as an actor.

Has it been a smooth road?
Believe it when they say you have to be crazy to be an actor. You are basically signing up for a struggle. The road has been everything but smooth. But, in a way, I am glad that it wasn’t. It has taught me and continues to teach me many lessons about myself and my surroundings. One of the biggest struggles has been dealing with rejection. I have never in my life been rejected so much! When I first moved to LA, I was all over the place. I drove near and sometimes very far for auditions. It showed me that initially, I was desperate. Desperate for some validation, a role, that would prove my worth here that it could have ultimately led me to be extremely naive and taken advantage of. I found that being comfortable with myself, no matter what was a huge struggle.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
My business profession is that of an actor. I bring characters to life that are written by talented writers in TV, film, commercials, and voiceover. I am most proud that I didn’t give up! Most people will pack up and go home after a few years. I believe that what sets me apart is my eagerness to learn all facets of the industry. To not just be an actor, but learn about what goes on behind the camera as well and the different phases of what it takes to create a project from idea to the martini shot.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Los Angeles has so much to offer. Literally every single day there is something to do. You can be overwhelmed! I love that all sorts of people come here. It’s a melting pot of its own. What I like least is probably universal: TRAFFIC. Oh and PARKING! Parking sucks where I live. I can recall many nights where I drove around the block for almost an hour looking for a spot to park!
