Meet Maithillee Zaveri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maithillee Zaveri.

Maithillee, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was in the 6th grade, I was asked what would you like to become when you grow up? I was confident that I want to become an artist, an entrepreneur, a motivational speaker & inspire/influence people who have an aim & big dreams.

But as I came in class 10, I realized that this path is uncertain, yet I did not want to give up. I felt more confident about my career when I had my first art show in 2004 & I sold three artworks from then onwards, there was no looking back. I’ve had 20+ art exhibitions till date. I graduated from The Lasalle college of the arts, Singapore in BFA, fine arts painting (2008 – 2011) Though not every art show meant that my works would be sold. At times, I would feel discouraged, disappointed, demotivated when people would judge, criticize & analyze my works. But as I grew, I become more stronger & positive. Career had not been easy for her as an emerging artist. Waiting & following up with galleries & their responses for approvals/rejections. That’s when I decided to open my own art studio. Where I would practice my art & help other artists by motivating/encouraging them in seminars. I believe all this would not have been possible without my family’s support, she opened my her studio in 2017 in Mumbai, India  from where I also sell my artworks through my private collections. I believe an artist should not be judged, analyzed, criticized or compared to/with other artists. Like every human being is different, so is an artist & their respective artworks. One should learn & understand the meaning behind the artist’s artwork before judging, comparing, analyzing or criticizing.

I aim to become a famous international artist one day. I dream big, aim high & most importantly believe in helping the ones in need. Few of her artworks have been displayed at Cambridge university, london & british high commission, New Delhi, India. My artworks depict serenity through conceptual landscapes which include waterfalls. I capture images of landscapes which have waterfalls as I believe that waterfalls bring good health & wealth in a person’s life. So I combine 4-5 images together by roughly drawing them & coloring them. Then once I feel satisfied, I create it on canvas using acrylics. Another theme which is attached to me is India’s magnificent architecture. Particularly of Rajasthan, India. I love capturing & creating intricate artworks too & I’m fascinated making Rajasthan’s architectures in black + white using mixed media on paper because they flourish even today. They take attention away from texture, tonal contrast, shape, form & lighting effects with a touch of color as well.

Hence, I try to capture the intricacies as closely as possible while making artworks live from the spot & filling in the shades by carefully visualizing them in black + white. Thats how I fell in love with the black + white concept of Rajasthan’s architectures & its intricacies + craftsmanship. She has won many prestigious awards & has been felicitated as guest of honour in many art events/shows since 2015.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it’s not been a smooth road for me. She had faced rejection because people found her works usual & not unusual. I have gone to galleries physically & shown my works, spoken to them & followed up with them but nothing worked in my favor. People never understood my kind of art I feel. It made me stronger day by day with the help of my family’s support. The concept of conceptualized landscapes, I feel is still new to them. So when I opened my own art studio in 2018, I had a lot of positive development in my artistic career. I started researching about galleries, their requirements, how to pitch them & kept re trying thats when I succeed. Initially galleries rejected her for her usual works in obedience to them. But now they understand her works & approach her if & when their clients require her kind of works. Now, galleries do ask me to display my works in their galleries. Visit my studio & see developments each day. It makes me very happy & keeps me motivated.

Alright – so let’s talk business.  What else should we know about you and your career so far?
My business is under my own name “Maithillee” which means happiness. I’m an entrepreneur, painting artist, musician, motivational/inspirational speaker & a horse rider too. I create masterpieces on paper & canvas using mixed media on paper & acrylic on canvas. I create conceptual landscapes on canvases. I also take commission works on order & customize artworks for clients. I give free seminars, art talk shows to/for artists by encouraging, motivating & supporting them. My ability to aim high, give hope to artists who are unable to support/stand by themselves, guide college & school students & continue to create masterpieces.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
LA is like New Delhi, India, I feel. The Porsche crowd, well to do families yet down to earth & helpful people. In general, the life in LA too. About my city, I feel I least like is the politics & attitude of people.
