Meet Maile Page of The Centre in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maile Page.

Maile, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It’s funny how the seemingly random events in your life become catalysts for the greatest transformations. While on leave from work, raising my newborn daughter and toddler son, I made the random decision to take yoga classes at our local YMCA. That one decision triggered a series of events which resulted in the end of my legal career, the end of my marriage, and the end of my life as I knew it at the time.

In that yoga class, I met a woman, Elizabeth, who I instantly liked, but who moved out of the area shortly thereafter. She contacted me six months later to tell me she had a dream that I was supposed to take a two-year energy medicine training called Quantum Energetics Structured Therapy (QEST). I was neither interested nor amused by this revelation, until she demonstrated the work, and told me about 3 physical conditions that I had and already knew about, but that I had kept private, (a small growing goiter, post-childbirth incontinence, and a nose surgery—for those of you who have to know).

l felt a pull toward this work she described that I never felt toward practicing law. When I tentatively shared with my spouse, family, and friends what I was considering, a wall of disapproval swelled up around me. My family was incredulous that I would even consider throwing away a prestigious law degree, and ten years of work experience to pursue what looked like a whacky quacky hobby.

My resolve to take the training only intensified when my 15 years of chronic shoulder pain, went away, not instantaneously, but gradually, as my body’s energy field was strengthened and its innate healing abilities restored. When my father’s sciatica pain (which persisted even after back surgery) disappeared, my family finally supported this decision that seemed crazy to everyone at the time. It seems unbelievable to me, that taking that leap of faith so many years ago, birthed a now 18-year practice fueled only by word of mouth, with a diverse blend of clients including artists, actors, attorneys, writers, doctors, stay at home mothers, and elite, athletes.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Because there was a lot of ignorance and fear around the subject of energy medicine in my circle of friends and family, I  found myself isolated in a community that had no knowledge of such things. My husband also found my new vocation “silly” at best, and “quackery” at worst, and the inability to come together on my new pursuits ended in divorce.  The icing on the cake occurred when I ended up with a degenerative neck condition that had me bedridden for a few months. As a single mother, whose work necessitated being able to stand up, this was a terrifying time in my life.

And, of course, there is the money factor. They say, “do what you love, and the money will follow”. Not so much. In a society where people are used to a $25 copayment for 5 minutes of a doctor’s time, energy work, not covered by insurance, is a hard sell. I have never made the same amount of money as an energy healer that I made as an attorney. But no matter the money or the struggle, I still love what I do, and wouldn’t change it.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Centre – what should we know?
I founded a wellness center called The Centre, in Pasadena, California. We offer innovative alternative healing options and a unique room rental program for qualified practitioners and instructors. I created what I couldn’t find as a practitioner, a beautifully decorated, professional space that rents rooms by the hour. Having to pay for space 24/7 when you have zero clients is not financially feasible for most new practitioners. This option offers qualified practitioners and instructors the opportunity to organically grow their practices.

What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for—any big changes?
Recently, I was introduced to a literary agent interested in my story and the work that I do. I would like to use my writing to better educate the public on how the body uses energy for its functioning and repair. Despite the growing acceptance of energy medicine, many myths and misunderstandings persist. It is not magic, nor does it require special other worldly gifts or abilities. Supplementing the energy body of another with low reserves is no more mysterious than lending another air during CPR when they are unable to breathe on their own.

It is also my hope and dream that many more practitioners pursue certification. I find it ridiculous that the energy work I do (QEST-Quantum Energetics Structured Therapy) has existed for over 40 years and I remain the sole practitioner in the Los Angeles area.

I just erased a much longer note as I realize this might be public. Sending a big hello and happy year of the dog!
