Today we’d like to introduce you to Maha Saab.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Maha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in New York City and have been in love with Art and Design since I was a child. I remember, clearly, beautiful rooms, places, spaces, and feeling elated and connected to the idea that people put effort into making something extraordinary for others to experience. As a kid, my “toy” was a composition notebook, and I designed a lot of rooms in it!
After years in Design & The Arts, I began to design classrooms and curriculum to be more organized, playful, and, most importantly, inspiring for children. I gained a lot of knowledge about the psyche of children, which I already felt connected too. This, in turn, made me a unique designer. Children freely and honestly navigate a room or space when they can. They also honestly respond to an interior that doesn’t work for them. I was able to observe and pivot design solutions for them to flourish.
After a few years in designing schools, I decided to merge my passion for design, art, and human development to create Maha Saab Home Design. I moved into residential interior design with a large part of my work in transforming children’s rooms. However, I have been lucky to work with clients and rethink their adult rooms as well! In fact, I am now working on a commercial space, and it’s exhilarating because this client loves Sculpture and Fine Art, so we are genuinely collaborating on making a sculptural, commercial space.
My goal is to make the world a better place room by room and just add as much beauty and clarity into people’s everyday lives. With the current situation, I have been able to help many families turn their home into a livable, playful, luxurious place that they can work out of. The best is when I get random texts months later of their family enjoying their newly designed homes and telling me how much better they feel since the changes.
Has it been a smooth road?
Its been smooth in terms of requests and client referrals. And the stay at home orders has made my services in demand. However, also because of the stay at home orders, things have taken longer to complete for everyone. I remember finishing 90% of one project right before the lockdown. It had taken two weeks to design and transform most of the room but three months to complete the last 10%!
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
I specialize in interior design, decor, and space transformation with experience in child/human development. I understand how to design for multiple ages. I am most proud that every room I have created is unique to my client’s identity and a space that they can grow into. My brand of quality, flexible service mixed with knowledge in luxury design, is pretty distinct. At least that’s what I hear! One of the best compliments I got from a client was “Maha, more than anything, you gave me the distance to see the potential of my home.” I loved that!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I am writing this answer from the perspective of the moment. Both the moment of where I am with Maha Saab Home Design and the moment we are all in together as Angelenos. I love our diversity, and I love that Los Angeles connects to many other California places somewhat easily. I also like how progressive Los Angeles can be. I least like the economic disparity. A beautiful city, safe home, and quality schools should be for everyone.
