Meet Lyn Marie Langston of Lyn Marie’s Canvas in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyn Marie Langston.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lyn Marie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been drawing off and on in pencil since I was a child. I was always very cautious about adding color to my work in fear that I’d ruin it. As a result of my grandmother’s death, I decided that it was time to start doing what I loved again and build a business from the ground up involving the things that I love in all its art forms. I started painting with acrylics for the first time December of 2016. I am self-taught and I continue to learn with every new piece that I do. I use art as a way to release and escape from my everyday life. Art is where I can express my profound feelings and celebrate my African American culture. It allows me to lose myself in my own world, create and stimulate conversation amongst others. My goal is to reach others through my art form by emulating growth. I would describe my artwork as powerful, vibrant and sympathetic a representation of the family I grew up in.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve struggled with commission and show deadlines as a result of having to also maintain a 9-5. I always seem to make it happen but it does get difficult to manage. Another struggle I’ve had is discovering new tools and paint brands that work best for me. Right now, most of my tools and paint used is by Masters touch. I love its consistency, the vibrancy of color and how easy it is to work with.

Please tell us more about your art.
My business is to provide acrylic works of art to collectors state to state and eventually worldwide. I’m known for and specialize in black art acrylic paintings, but I’m also open to other art concepts and ideas. I paint on various sized canvases and I run all of my marketing through Instagram. I am a self-taught painter and I am most proud of the progress I’ve made while honing my craft. I am also proud of the fact that people enjoy my artwork no matter what I create and that I am able to say that my art is representative of the family I grew up in. Think that’s a large part of what sets me apart from other artists. I also believe that my style of art doesn’t fit in the box of terms that define the fine art world. My artwork doesn’t always fall under one category, my originals are always a mix of different art styles.

  • I require $50 non-refundable deposits for all commissions and pricing varies based on concept.
