Meet Lydia Luna of Moon Collective Sanctuary

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydia Luna.

Hi Lydia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and founder of the Moon Collective Sanctuary. I’m currently in private practice providing psychotherapy and am a certified Breathwork practitioner. I work with individuals, couples and families with various challenges and diagnoses. Healing has always been my life’s purpose — as a young Latina in a family of instability and hardship, my dream of becoming a doctor may have appeared out of reach considering no one in my immediate family had attended college. But my heart knew what I was meant to do and I worked very hard to earn my PhD in Clinical Psychology. My work has been deeply rewarding and has allowed me to gain an understanding of the human struggle beyond socio-economic status, education, age, ethnicity or gender.

A few years ago, I felt an internal call to create retreats for healing and wellness. I was drawn to help people disconnect from our stressful world and restore their inner selves. While there are many therapeutic options for people to receive mental health treatment, and there are plenty of wellness retreats, there are fewer options for a blend of the two – a wellness-oriented retreat that incorporates the psychological component. By cultivating a space that concentrates on mind-body-soul repair, I could fill the void with an accessible program that doesn’t require a large time or travel commitment — providing respite from daily life where we’d offer psychological support with experienced mental health professionals in collaboration with gifted health and wellness experts. People going through a major life change, or maybe caregiver fatigue or professional burn-out need a tranquil space to achieve true physical and spiritual renewal and personal discovery.

In 2020 the world changed drastically, and the need for mental health nourishment and connection to others has never been greater. What a perfect time to listen to that calling I’ve had for years! I established the Moon Collective Sanctuary at the beginning of the pandemic and we’ve curated numerous single-day intimate wellness retreats; as well as specialized retreats for families, couples, first responders, birthdays, and anyone in need of a transformational experience. It’s been such an honor to create a magical space and help people navigate these challenging times.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe that with great suffering comes invaluable lessons and growth opportunity. I’ve survived many challenges that transformed my life. As a child, I witnessed domestic violence and later, had a tumultuous marriage which led to divorce. The ultimate axis-shift was losing my boyfriend to suicide in 2015. I’d already embarked on my spiritual journey but when he took his life, my world utterly collapsed. I was angry at God, nearly catatonic with grief, and I became profoundly disillusioned with life. My guilt was soul-crushing — Did I fail him? What more could I have done? I questioned everything. With the help of loved ones, therapy, and deep introspection, I emerged a changed woman. I asked the Universe for infinite wisdom because I wanted to make sense of it all. The Universe responded and I was blessed with an awakening that catapulted me to become a “spiritual seeker.”

Through my personal and professional experience, I discovered the power of various healing modalities. I learned how to access different states of consciousness which helped me reach a deeper understanding of my painful past and about life. Since then, I’ve felt a desire to share what I’ve learned with others in hopes that it might be helpful. Although my journey has had its fair share of difficulties, I wouldn’t change it because it’s given me grit, compassion and tremendous gratitude. I know I couldn’t have survived without a strong support system; we’re not meant to go through this alone. So, my hope is that through the Moon Collective Sanctuary, we provide a compassionate supportive community and space to anyone seeking greater meaning and self-love so they may tap into their greatest potential.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
In our center, we integrate various healing modalities and curate single-day, weekend, and private retreats intended to attend to the mind, body and soul. Our core offerings include Breathwork (intended to release emotional, physical, and energetic blockages; as well as increase energy and reduce stress), Sound Healing (intended to ground, relax and rejuvenate), and Soul Discussion Groups (intended to support mental health and raise consciousness).

Our gatherings are led by mental health professionals along with gifted health and wellness experts and, collectively, we cultivate a safe environment for healing and spiritual alchemy. The Moon Collective Sanctuary also offers a variety of individual services such as one-on-one Breathwork session, Sound Baths, Yoga, Coffee Readings, Reiki, as well as Life Coaching and Psychotherapy (through private practice).

We also curate specialized retreats for bridal parties, families, couples, first responders, new parents, for men, women or adolescents. Our goal is to provide access to wellness and help people transform personal hardships, fears, and limiting beliefs into wisdom, compassion, self-acceptance and self-love.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’m so thankful for the opportunity to connect with your readers and I hope to touch them by sharing my journey. We all have access to so much abundance, and it’s up to us to manifest our reality. But it takes intention and work. Purpose doesn’t find us; we must create it. By raising our self-awareness and living in our truth, we individually and collectively connect with humanity and our planet on a core level and throw the door wide open to unlimited possibilities. I encourage everyone to trust their inner voice. Trust that when you practice courage – even one step in courage – the universe will meet you there, support and guide you. I would be honored to help you begin your personal metamorphosis.
