Meet Lucille Bell of Room 2 Dance in San Gabriel Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucille Bell.

Lucille, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My first concert at 16 years old was to see the 80’s band Erasure that was playing in LA. However, this was not a concert – it was a full blown theatrical production! I had never been to the theater or seen such beautiful costumes, choreography, and movement and at that moment I fell in love. The next day I searched and found my first dance class. Knowing that I was very late in the game I went ahead and got my degree in dance anyway. During that time, I was training and starting to teach ballroom and Latin dances. I taught at a studio for 14 years then decided it was time for a change. I left and three months later I was back in the studio but this time for myself. My husband and I opened up a dance studio because I couldn’t be without it. I never dreamed to open my own studio or have my own business but I love everything about – from meeting all kinds of wonderful people to the schedule I am so accustomed to. One day I blinked and the business was born. We have been here now for 6 years and I am so grateful to have taken that leap.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We have been very blessed from the first day we opened our doors. We have always had a busy schedule and students to join us to whatever shenanigans we have planned.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Room 2 Dance – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Room 2 Dance is a boutique dance studio where we teach many forms of social dancing. We have all kinds of students that learn for all kinds of reasons. This could include, but is not limited to weddings, parties, vacations, bucket lists, promises, and the list just goes on. We enjoy teaching people Salsa, Swing, Tango, Waltz, Bachata, Cha-Cha, and Line Dances, to name a few. We are proud of the experience that we provide at our studio. It is not just a dance class, it’s an experience from the time you walk through the door. What sets us apart from others is perhaps the interest we take in the progress of our students. We take field trips with them every other month and provide dance socials at the studio as well so that they have the opportunity to feel what will happen when they go out on their own for the first time.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are really hoping to get Kizomba started at the studio. It’s an upcoming dance that we hope will stick around in the scene for some time. I love the music and the dance itself.

I also hope to get some events going that I have been planning for some time. I would like to hold some events for singles, offer a date night for couples, and maybe bring back our Thriller flash mobs.

It sounds so exciting. Lucille has the perfect personality and spunk for being a charming and skillful dance teacher. I wish we would live closer by!
