Meet Los Feliz Photographer: Rosa Colapietro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosa Colapietro.

Rosa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began my photographer career by shooting my own Jewelry product. I was designing my own Jewelry and I was doing my own advertising, I need it to have great pictures that represented my vision, I also had no money to hire anyone for photos. I began learning everything about photography, lighting etc. After a few months of that, my husband saw my pictures and he invited me to come shoot behind the scenes for some of his artists. He is a Music producer. It all move so fast, next thing I knew I was now photographing Music Artist etc. It’s been a few years now and I only do it during the Summer, because I’m a full-time Accountant and getting my College degree keeps me busy when it’s school time. I have to say that my first big break was a commercial job. I had a big job I was referred to by a friend, who knew I was now photographing and said that this would be a good opportunity for me. I took the job, It was a lot of work and I learn so much from it. I don’t hire any assistants, my husband it’s my right arm on everything. I have been so lucky and bless that my clients have been referrals.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it hasn’t. I had to learn everything from scratch and still learning. My commercial photography job was difficult because the budget was small but they wanted all these amazing photos with props and people. With the help of my husband and I, we got creative and deliver amazing photos with a small budget. I had to rent things and return them as soon I finish the photos. It was fun but also very stressful. I have also photographed at night time thinking I had all my lighting perfect and it was a mess. I also photograph a baby and the parents didn’t like the pictures I took of their baby. It has been a lot but it’s all a process, I have done so many favors so people can be happy with the pictures. Most of my clients knew I was a beginner.

What role has luck had in your life and career?
I don’t think luck applies to me. I have worked really hard to get where I am. Most cases it’s been difficult but never a bad luck either.

Is there a quality or characteristic that has played an outsized role in your success?
Some of the most important quality I like to apply to anything it’s integrity, drive, and self-confidence. I feel I do for my clients more than anyone else would do. I like to have the integrity build into what I do because that’s the way they will be able to refer other clients, to me. I try to apply integrity to everything I do, from my Accounting career to the smallest job taken. I also have a lot of drive to be successful to get somewhere in life without depending on anyone else. See as a child I was very poor in my native country and I like to keep that in mind. That drives me everyday. From my drive comes my self-confidence. I keep both side by side. I’m not going to say that I have always been confidence cause that would be a lie. but I try to do my best to not let fear take over and to push ahead in life. My motto is like focus straight-like a horse.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love everything about our city. I live in Los Feliz and I love having culture around, the ability I can walk anywhere in my neighborhood. My husband and I love to discover new places and walk everywhere. I have walk 11 miles in a couple of hours from Griffith park to Hollywood sign and back. I also love to do a lot of street photography, if you follow my Instagram, you can see all my street photography. I love the weather. If I have to be negative about one thing, I don’t like traffic. I’m on the road for hours and it’s exhausting.
