Meet Los Angeles Photographer: Tamara Tihanyi-Knausz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Tihanyi-Knausz.

Tamara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been on the other side of the camera for over a decade as a model and actress, which gives me a great understanding what it takes to make my clients look their best and how the entertainment industry works. I was always passionate about taking photos but I realized this is what I wanted to do professionally after my son was born 6 years ago.

I started taking photos of him and everyone loved them. Friends started asking me to take photos of their kids. I upgraded my gear and started offering specials to the modeling agency my son was represented by. With my photos, I have helped many children to get direct bookings, better auditions and/or to find a better agency. Happy moms and agents are your best advertisers as my hobby grew into a full-time career.

Now I am one of the top children photographers in LA and being recommended by the top Los Angeles children’s agencies for kids acting headshots and modeling photos.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’m a perfectionist so I always made sure I don’t take on more than I can handle. I love working with children so it has been a lot of fun actually.

Tell us about your childhood, what were you like growing up?
I grew up in Gyor, Hungary as an only child. I started swimming at a very young age and did that competitively till I was around 15 years old. This took up most of my time as we had practices twice a day. My teammates are still my closest friends till this day. I was always more like a tomboy, sporty type. I liked to play with cars and trains instead of Barbies. When I turned 15 is when I started getting interested in modeling and entered Elite’s Look of the Year contest. I got into the finals in Hungary and landed a contract with Elite. This is when I started modeling.

Is there a specific memory from when you were younger that you really miss?
I enjoyed my swimming years with my teammates. We were very close and had some great times going to competitions and ski trips together.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the near future, I will start offering studio photography sessions and would like to do more commercial photography. Would love to work on children clothing campaigns, like baby gap or guess kids.
