Meet Los Angeles Photographer: Christine Doneé

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Doneé.

Christine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After having studied fine art, drawing and fashion illustration for years, I fell into photography as a natural progression of artistic curiosity. And it was love at first sight! I have since been photographing weddings for over 5 years and am deeply enamored by the fusion of adventure, fashion, elegance and natural emotion created within these celebrations.

Has it been a smooth road?
Luckily, I have had the honor of photographing celebrations all over the world, allowing me to travel, sight-see and get that much-needed change-of-scenery in order to keep my creative juices flowing. Oftentimes the biggest challenge is staying inspired amidst the non-artistic territory of running your own business, but a day spent exploring another city or a drive through the countryside with film in hand can be the perfect remedy.

Have you ever felt like giving up?
Some of the tougher moments in my career have come from learning (mostly the hard way) that I’m running my own company, not just being a photographer. Meaning that I deal with everything from accounting to customer service, from marketing to office management, and I can’t do the fun parts of the job, like flying to Italy to shoot an elopement, if I don’t take care of the business side of things. It’s not always easy, especially for creative people like myself, but when I learned to develop my skills in those other areas, my business as a whole started to thrive.

What advice do you wish to give to those thinking about pursuing a path similar to yours?
Los Angeles is a city full of creatives and dreamers. Take advantage! The best way to start building up a portfolio is to shoot. And to keep shooting. So reach out to designers, to models, to florists, to stylists and work together to create something amazing. It’s an incredible way to get started, and we’re really lucky to be in a city that is full of so many talented people.

What are you most excited about these days?
I truly do love the couples that I get to work with. More often than not, they become life-long friends, so I’m always excited to see who I’ll be working with in the coming years. It’s one of the greatest joys of my career!
