Meet Loryn Barbosa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Loryn Barbosa.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Loryn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started dancing at a very young age, I was always surrounded by family members who listened to good soulful music and danced together. I still remember the first dance move I learned from my cousin Samantha. While my cousins and I would hang out together we would watch all of the latest music videos during that time such as Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, Ciara, and so much more. At the age of 12 my mom decided to put me into competitive cheerleading and praise dance. Later I started training at New Style Motherlode in Oakland, California under Cory Action and Culture Shock Oakland under Mama Kim. Around 16 or 17 years old my mom decided to take me out of all of my dance activities because I was misbehaving and not excelling to my best potential in school. Also, during that time just as a child, I was going through so much that now I can go back, dissect and self-reflect on why I behaved and acted the way I did. But at that time being a teenager I had no idea that not having a good relationship with my father was causing me to act out and behave the way I was. That’s why today I cherish and love my mom so much for everything she has done for me being a single mother. Once I graduated from high school, I had the freedom to train under so many different teachers and take so many classes and later that year I got my first opportunity to choreograph and perform for an upcoming artist from my hometown. That’s when I realized, this was my calling. From there I work with more major artist from the Bay Area like Nef The Pharaoh, Adrian Marcel, and ALLBLACK. I also teach classes in the Bay Area as well, which I love because I get the chance to share my love and energy with people who enjoy doing what I’m doing.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never been a smooth ride for me. From the beginning I’ve always had issues “fitting in” from the time I cheerlead till today. But I love what I do so much, that now today no matter what’s put in front of me, I can achieve and accomplished it.

Loryn Barbosa – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a professional dancer and choreographer! I teach classes here in the Bay Area, choreograph for music videos and create my own visuals. Last year I had the chance to go to India with the Sacramento Kings to dance at their first ever NBA Game. I’m known for pushing the envelope with my ideas here in the Bay Area. I’m always working on my craft, training, and researching. I put 1000% into everything I do and I’m very passionate.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There’s so many things I’m proud of my career. By far my proudest moment, was dancing for Tye Tribbett and Snoop Dogg for the BET Awards 2018. Tye Tribbett called me the day before the award show saying he needed dancers and choreography. I’ve never had to work that fast and still provide amazing choreography, especially to gospel music and gospel audience. To accomplish something like that, I would never forget that.
