Meet Loretta Chen of Nomsandbeyond in San Gabriel Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Loretta Chen.

Loretta, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been taking food pictures ever since I got my first point and shoot camera in high school. I have been contributing reviews and photos as a Yelp elite member for over 8 years and have been posting food pictures on Instagram for over 5 years. As a member of Foodietribe, I have also had the opportunity to contribute my writing to Huffington Post on a voluntary basis.

It was only in 2016, that I began to receive invitations to food tastings and media events and I must say, it has been quite an adventure so far. While Yelp and Instagram are great for sharing in their own ways, I have always wanted a creative outlet where I can blog about my favorite spots and recipes, share travel stories and advice, and post photos of exciting new places I found through Yelp and Instagram events, which is why I started my blog. Through Instagram and my blog, I have continued to challenge myself to improve in both writing and photography.

Has it been a smooth road?
Having done photography for fun for so long, it has been challenging to have the confidence to take it to the next step to grow my photography business.  I am constantly learning and am always eager to keep improving my photography.  I hope that long term, I can help people and restaurants tell their story through my photography.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Nomsandbeyond – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I mainly do food photography and I am proud that I have capabilities in other areas, such as portrait and landscape and still life/product photography.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that my city is very diverse, with plenty of things to do and eat. I dislike that certain areas can be touristy/crowded because of it.
