Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorena Tomb.
Lorena, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to Los Angeles from Montreal in 2007. At the time, I had just gotten married and didn’t have my paperwork in order to start working in LA. I had always worked in sales and marketing and was consistently a top producer.
Coming to LA opened my eyes to the potential return I could achieve if I focused on the Real Estate industry. Fast forward to 2008, the economy crashed alongside my dream and I found myself working in the restaurant business for a few years.
I still got my license and kept an eye on the market for any sign of change. In 2010, right after having my first child, I had the opportunity to transition into real estate focusing specifically on hospitality and entertainment and jumped on it. A year into the business I had sold and leased properties in some of the cities hottest areas and was set into this new career.
I was recruited to JLL, one of the world’s largest brokerages in the world in 2014. I continued to do very well but felt unhappy in a large corporate environment. I was pregnant with my third child when I knew I was about to go on my own. (major changes came with every pregnancy!) so I did. In 2017, I started Urbanlime Real estate with one consulting agreement and dozens of amazing relationships I had built in the business. My clients worked with me, not the brokerages I was with so the transition was relatively smooth. I initially took a space at a co-working office and had one other broker working with me. Today, we’ve moved our offices to the arts district and are a team of nine brokers working hard while continuing to have fun.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been relatively smooth though the biggest challenge was brand recognition and credibility. We wanted to service small and large clients and had to make sure they trusted us to do the job right.
We took it a day at a time, an assignment at a time and as we started closing deals, the name became more recognized and people now tell us they see us everywhere. It’s very rewarding.

At Urbanlime real estate we provide commercial real estate brokerage services and consulting. We assist tenants, landlords, buyers and sellers with their real estate needs. We are mostly known for our work in hospitality and entertainment though our work ranges from everything from retail to office and investment sales.
