Meet Livingmore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Livingmore.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Alex: The start of Livingmore was 2014. Spencer and I had mutual friends through music and we had gone to each other’s solo shows. I remember seeing him play his original tunes and thinking “I really feel he’d get my music” I said hello afterward, months passed by and I suddenly was on the search for a lead guitarist for a solo gig, Spencer popped up and volunteered and after that we just started hanging out writing songs together and felt like we were in the same exact place in life both having a past of ended projects we were once passionate about and sort of in a limbo zone searching for something else to spark our creativity. We felt a wave of motivation together and decided to form Livingmore after our last names Moore and Livingston. We played shows acoustically at first to give the songs some life and through doing that we met our drummer Mike who approached us after we played and it developed into a rock band from there now having Rodrigo Moreno joining us on bass as well. Spencer, Mike and I now all live together in Sherman Oaks so that makes planning band things or spontaneous bursts of song pretty easy, and Rodrigo also lives pretty close by. Some people hate on the valley and I’m from their so I’ve had my fair share of valley boredom but I’ve met some of the most down to earth people in my life here. There has been huge learning experiences from being in this band and I’m proud of how self-sufficient we have become together.

Please tell us about your art.
We have a pretty organic way we write songs and we don’t try to force it. It happens in different ways all the time. Sometimes Spencer and I will write songs separately, other times he’ll show me a melody on guitar and I’ll come up with lyrics on the spot based on how it makes me feel and now sometimes Mike shows us an awesome loop he created and we jam on it and create something all together. We like making melodic rocks songs that make you feel things and love including some harmonies. There’s no one way to write a song that’s for sure. I hope to always surprise people with what we come out with next and keep things interesting.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Alex: There are of course many different levels of success out there but as long as we are staying true to what we want to create I define that as success. I’m not going to lie and say there’s not some complete bummer moments but I find success is learning from mistakes and knowing who to avoid because let’s face it there are a lot of people out there that try to promise artists things that do not actually happen. So when I feel our moments of accomplishment, it’s usually from trusting our instincts and our own timing, not going against what feels natural. I think as an artist you have to remember no one’s journey is the same and being passionate as well as consistent with your work goes a long way.
