Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Whitebread.
Hi Lisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It’s my Mom! It’s all her fault… she was a Master Gardener. Thanks to her, I have a huge garden and a passion for ‘natural’ design. I started Earthworks Interior Plantscaping in 1975 and enrolled in Cuyamaca College to figure out how to make it work. I joined the board to help establish criteria for an official IP degree and enrolled in a floral design class and an architecture class. A turning point for now Designworks Florals, still designing plantscapes plus incorporating florals into corporate accounts, hotels and restaurants.
I spent some time freelancing in LA for a company doing the Oscar parties that really expanding my thinking. Now I work from a home based studio/gardens surrounded by inspiration.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Having a baby and divorce at 19 was an issue but it made me design work that fit my life. The best lesson was to stay true to my personal style. It’s been a great adventure…
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The thing I’m most proud of is my client’s reaction. The natural style defines my work, dedication to my clients, attention to detail sets me apart.
