Meet Lisa Ciotto of doTERRA Wellness Advocate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Ciotto.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was a stay at home mom until my children entered high school. During that time an offer to help out a neighbor to take over her home-based daycare business for the last three weeks of school fell into my lap. It was never something I wanted to do, coming from a family of eight siblings and taking care of my five younger sisters as a kid myself. I said yes, and the following year opened Miss. Lisa Daycare, a licensed home-based business for the next 12 years. I was grateful to be a stay at home mom to raise my children and felt right at home surrounded by kids.

I began seeking new learning, and after three years enrolled in our local community college as an Occupational Therapy Assistant student and graduated at the top of my class. I chose to go into the skilled nursing area of practice and work with the geriatric population, here I was taught so much of the wisdom I now pass on to others. I have 17+ years in the Occupational Therapy field where I also worked in outpatient, home-care, and acute care at the Rehab Hospital in CT, all of which supported myself and my family as a single mom.

Two of my sisters were diagnosed at the young ages of 36 and 31 with breast cancer which forced me to stand still and take in the messages that were before me. I began researching how I could change my risk factors vs. taking the ever immune depleting drugs that were out there. I began looking into the fascinating and very confusing world of natural health. I learned that lifestyle choices have everything to do with your body’s health, and so began my journey.

Eating healthy, exercising, removing myself from major stressors and as a woman at that stage of my life, I felt fabulous and empowered. My top Gallup Strength is a learner, and again I went seeking new learning and enrolled in Institute for Integrative Nutrition and obtained my certification as a Holistic Health Coach, which furthered my knowledge and excitement to simplify once again the overwhelming information on the market. I have a flair for simplifying steps in multiple learning capacities.

During this time, I was introduced to essential oils. I began researching the top two companies on the market, and for me, it was a no-brainer that the quality of doTERRA was what I gravitated to. I dove right in for personal usage and then began sharing what I was seeing for myself with others. To watch someones stress melt away in front of my eyes, their breathing calm, their shoulder relax or ease someones digestive issue is so empowering to me that I could not stop sharing with others.

Life is so busy for everyone, and the one word I hear most from people is that they feel “overwhelmed.” Feeling this way on a day to day basis is depleting our immune system, which then allows for an open door for dis-ease in the body. I have only been sick two times in the last 20+ years, and that is because I choose to take care of my body and keep a healthy immune system and this is possible for everyone to achieve.

doTERRA Essential Oils offer support on a physical, emotional, spiritual and cellular level that helps the body come back into balance, and the body then can heal itself. I consult with moms to devise a personalized plan that fits into their family’s lifestyle with simple and easy protocols to keep immune systems strong and healthy. I host community workshops, adult education classes at the RBUSD, Soul Fitness LA Yoga Studio and group classes for those interested in learning more about natural solutions.

I am a paid speaker on wellness topics for corporate companies that want to offer their employees a healthier work-lifestyle balance, which in turn will produce less absenteeism and higher productivity. I host online webinars and support local events. As a whole we have to find a way to remove the toxicity from the body and the environment and toxicity comes in many forms, including stress and poor nutrition.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Live is supposed to have bumps, I like to call it “building character.” I have never been one to let things get me down; once I make up my mind, I will keep moving forward until the goal is met. A passion was ignited in me as a kid to do more for the world, and at times that felt overwhelming to me. I chose to build my business alongside a company that has character, and I resonate with their mission at the core.

Many people are turned off by the network marketing companies that are popping up all over. doTERRA as an essential oil company is really mostly an agriculture company that produces plant-based products. They chose this platform because it is the best way to teach people how to use the oils and products directly, build relationships, empower others right in their own homes to become a part of their future health. Many people are fixated on pharmaceuticals and have forgotten how medicine began.

There is a place for both the Western and Alternative practitioners to work side by side and doTERRA is doing just that. My business is based on teaching people how they can step into and own the health of their body. I can give them all the tools and teach them the skill set, but they have to want it. That is where the struggles come in for me.

People say they want changes in their health and then the “but” comes in. They will keep putting it off until they are in dire need of making changes or they are so overwhelmed by past failures with pharmaceuticals or nutrition plans that they become paralyzed. I love keeping it simple, and I love choosing to work with those who truly want to change.

The other part of building this business is all the personal development and self-reflection that you have to do to become a great leader. This is an ongoing process and hard to encourage others I work with and partner with to engage in, if only they realized the powerful benefits, it produces in one’s life.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the doTERRA Wellness Advocate story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a Health Education Expert. My business is based on teaching others the value of utilizing plant-based botanicals and products, nutrition and mindfulness as the core foundation of their health. I help them understand the importance of removing toxic overload and to stop putting off what they should do now.

A strong immune system is at the core of my expertise, and this incorporates protocols for stress reduction, cellular health, digestive and respiratory health, and intentional sleep. I provide great customer service and resources to optimize their journey and love connecting either in-person or zoom conference. I help others join our community of like-minded others so that it enhances their experience.

I partner with doTERRA Essential Oils, and as a company, they are very mission-driven to help the world have a better quality of life. Their co-impact sourcing has benefited people around the world and empowered so many to follow suit. I am proud to be a part of this company and the impact we are having on the world.

I appreciate the hard work I have done to build a residual income that will support not only myself but others partners that I team with. Putting a little simplicity back in our lives and being good to ourselves is something I would like to help families gain back and I can provide that to those who are seeking it.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe everything happens for a reason. My mom always said, “be good to yourself” and I take that to heart. My sister and I always lived by the model of “Keep it Simple.” I think if we open your heart, take time to stand still and listen; we realize there is already a plan for our lives.

I believe that by being authentic in who I am and keep the education simple for people, they will realize that the choices they make to bring essential oils and essential oil consumable products into their homes are a good choice. They can become decision makers where their health is concern and learn how to be proactive.
