Meet Lindsey Neller of Palette Salon Studios in South Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Neller.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lindsey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in a small town I was always bored so for fun I used to get into trouble it started with boys and cigarettes and very quickly turned to drinking and drugs. I moved to California at the age of 14 and ran wild I lasted about three months as a freshman in high school before the sent me to an alternative program around this time I developed relationship with drugs and I was all in.

Around 18, I started to make some new friends I got a job waiting tables at alcupucos and I started getting my shit together one day I was getting my hair cut and colored by a hairstylist I had seen a few times. We joked around a lot she was funny anyways I told her how did she sleep at night charging me so much for my hair she laughed and told me why don’t I go to school to do hair I was like why would I do that her response was I would be able to get my hair done for free All the time I told her I don’t even know how to do hair she said don’t worry you will learn that later it’s all about personality and that I had the personality for it!

So guess what I signed up and went! She was right I was kinda a natural not like I was amazing but I had a naturalness for it I wasn’t ever scared everything made sense I would try everything I had no fear in beauty school I was always doing my teachers and my classmates color!! So I got my 1600hours booked my state board test but never went I started partying a lot got caught up in drugs again and this time it lasted another seven years in and out of jails and rehabs I was living to get high and that was the only important thing to me, then I get pregnant had a little boy who would change my world! I started working back on the restaurant industry I hated it. I longed to be able to wear cute clothes and love my job but intact I wore a uniform and was miserable. Anyways there was a group of girls who always cams for lunch they were beautiful always smiling and dressed so cute one day I asked where do you guys work they giggled and said they were hairstylists at a fancy salon right across the way!

My next day off I spent the whole day finding out if I could still get my cosmo license and guess what because I had paid the fee seven years ago But just never showed up I could! So I went I failed three times lol but finally, I passed and I got a job with those girls at that fancy salon! At that salon, I started out as an assistant turns out I was actually babysitting her kids more than hairdressing so I bounced around till I found the salon right for me that’s where I met Yuri and that’s where my real hairstylist journey began! I Assisted till I could assist and work commission I worked seven days a week and when Yuri decided to open her private studio, I jumped at the opportunity went straight to renting from her and I’ve been blooming and blossoming ever since. Bring a hairstylist saved my life and I truly believe I was destined to do this!

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely struggles a lot of trial and error this business is always changing you have to stay current on tiredness and techniques.

Alright – so let’s talk business.  What else should we know about you and your career so far?
I feel like I’m known for balayages but I do a little of everything when it comes to hair I’m pretty well rounded when it comes to women’s hair! I feel like what sets me aside is my customer service when you’re in my chair, I go above and beyond for you.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I’m always playing with the idea of teaching. I’d love to share what I’ve learned with all the future hairstylists who knows maybe one day even open a school!
