Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Ruiz Pena.
Linda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I guess it all started when my husband and I embarked on a year-long honeymoon traveling the world in 2009. (I feel immense gratitude that we received these moments to grow together and connect with such presence.)
Prior to this trip we had enjoyed traveling on several occasions, but it really was through this trip that I learned how much we enjoyed the experience of the uncomfortable & where it may lead… Travel has become meditative; while being still, jumping off a cliff, or trying to communicate in a different language… it’s the state we are in while traveling that transformed our lives.
On our arrival home, we bought and lived on a sailboat. (Loved it so much, we talk about retiring on a boat. 😉 After a year and a half, we bought a house but weren’t ready to give up the boat. I looked into renting the boat as a vacation rental but realized long-term property managers didn’t have sufficient experience with vacation rentals… and so I took on the Property Management role while studying for my CA Real Estate Brokers exam.
As it turns out, people enjoy vacationing in unique spaces 😉 With time and experience, I learned the in’s and out’s of Vacation Rental Property Management. I began fine-tuning the system and continued buying properties. Venture Yours was thus created. 🙂 The team grew, and we now manage others properties while giving owners two simple vacation rental management options:
Essential Management & Complete Management. Providing flexibility to homeowners to use us as little or as much as they need us
Has it been a smooth road?
Is it ever a smooth road to success? I think there are smooth parts of the road, but there are curves in the road that are meant as teaching points and allow us to grow in the business sense as well as personally.
Take the development of our Wagon for example:
I was developing a tiny house in Joshua Tree; side note, my husband says I tend to cut things/timing too close (he might be right)
I was managing the development, doing a large portion of the interior decor, meeting with contractors, buying supplies, searching for land, etc. (each being full times jobs) Apart from these “full-time jobs,” I was also trying to grow my business… Might sound like an impossible task… it was. I was getting what needed to be done to stay above water, but I wasn’t growing because I didn’t allow myself to do the managerial tasks that needed to get done in order for my team to succeed. Because I was trying to do a lot of the work myself (and don’t hear me wrong, there were major teaching points in doing the work myself that I needed to learn) but I had cut our timing a little to close (My husband was right…)
Here we are three days before our family vacation to Vietnam, and we need to drive the tiny house and set her up on the land, develop additional long-term amenities, hook up the solar, hook up the gas and water, aesthetics, maybe eat, and the list goes… oh and did I mention this was in the middle of summer in Joshua Tree (we’re talking 110+ degree weather) At one point, I realized, we were going to have to spend 1 more night to finish the work and that would put us leaving Joshua Tree on the day of our flight to Vietnam (and we hadn’t packed) All the meanwhile, we were sweating, had no air conditioner, and hadn’t set up the water so we couldn’t shower…
Pretty comical looking back at it know, but I learned the lesson of delegating and how powerful that can be to the growth of a business as well as a healthy work/life balance.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Venture Yours manages and invests in vacation rentals on Airbnb, vrbo, HomeAway, etc.. We have a portfolio of properties for people to call home while they are on vacation. If your an owner of a vacation rental and/or an investment property, you know this can be exhausting at times.
What if owners had the option of having a property manager at a fraction of the cost and they could make more income? This is our Essential Management Option with a 15% Booking Fee. This option includes Professional Photos, Crafting of Listing, House Inspection, Consultation, Bookings, Confirmation and pre-communication, post stay reviews.
What if that same company also offered a full-time property manager for those that didn’t want to handle it at all? That’s our Complete Management Option with a 30% Booking Fee. This option includes the “Essential Management’“ features, plus communication during a guests stay, inventory check, management of cleaners, scheduling of cleaners and repairs when needed. (the whole enchilada ;))
We have no long-term contracts – We believe that property management companies should retain homeowners by providing excellent service and financial results, not by locking them into long-term agreements. If owners aren’t happy with our performance, they can choose to stop renting their home at any time.
Consultation – This service is to our homeowners who choose the Essential Management. The consultation is at no cost to the owner, and we discuss How to be a Good Host and streamline turnovers – tips from a company with 4.8-star ratings across all properties. We know what makes vacation rentals successful and want to share with the owner for their success as we partner with them.
Support – We have a team on call, seven days a week, who responds to every inquiry and confirms reservations; ensuring a streamlined booking experience for owners guests and maximized profits.
For our travelers we ensure:
Technology – The age of main users on vacation rental sites are between 25-34. For this reason, Ventures Yours assures your property embraces today’s household technologies – Smart TV, Keyless entry, and Bluetooth speaker (never spending more than $175)
Support – We have a team on call, seven days a week, who responds to every inquiry and confirms reservations; ensuring a streamlined booking experience for your guests.
Quality Control – We perform dedicated Quality Control to assure the quality and state of our properties so travelers can experience quality and expected experience across all our properties. 🙂
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
With the city, beach, and mountains all within 1.5 hours, it’s a great place to have vacation rentals for travelers to hop around.
