Today we’d like to introduce you to Limor Rubinstein.
Limor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had an enormous unexplainable hidden passion for baking and dessert art. I think it represent a part of self in it. I usually baked for the family over the holidays, just like any other typical mom… never thought to turn my “hobby” and my passion for dessert art making into a business, I worked at a large real estate/investment firm for 9 years, managing a large front desk. I had moved into a different position but wasn’t able to continue.
Shortly after, I had my son’s bar mitzvah planned and ready. During that time, when I was setting up to my the bar mitzvah dessert table and candy bar and also getting ready for another family member 60th birthday party… things started to sink in… everyone around me, family and friends were amazed… they thought I was hiding all these years. Truth is, I never planned for it to go out of control… and showcase my work like that. They all started placing their orders for Hanukka, their bar mitzvhas, weddings and more. I wasn’t as ready back then… but I jumped in and took over. It was an amazing feeling… seeing everyone enjoying my baked goods, desserts and sweets (really… my intention was to only bake 2-3 cakes).
As the month went by, I already started getting phone calls from people’s word of mouth (that today they are my clients) ordering from me on a monthly basis sometimes weekly. Then, I understood… something was definitely there… a hidden passion and I guess, talent I wasn’t aware of. Then, I decided to make a change. It took a while, but soon that summer, I already had my website and my photo shoot done. Most of all… it inspired me, that I can create and make people happy. Everyone wants to taste something delightful, either at event or just when you invite guests over even when you are just home… it has been 3.5 blessed years, going stronger then ever.
I never knew I am capable to enhance my baking skills and techniques, discovering my talent and move deeper with that. I wanted to let my creativity just burst out and see how far I can get. It’s a competition against myself.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course at the beginning, it’s never smooth – it takes time to be educated about the different market, the pricing and the industry. I would say time management and knowing to combine the right flavors and smells, amounts and ingredients, is crucial, to get to the right results. Baking is science. Clients sometimes don’t have the knowledge how much time, effort, dedication and being precise, is put into their desserts and baking goods but after they taste it, they understand.
At the same time, my clients value my work and the creations that I do and that is the drive for me to always strive for the best, keep going and exceed my client’s expectations.
Also – you always learn from a pastry or a dessert unit that wasn’t as good as you expected and not trying again, that’s a failure. So, the key is always improve, learn new desserts innovations and definitely get out of the box and be creative. I am also being inspired from amazing chefs in our community that always support.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
