Meet Lila Woodard of Elastic Lila in Westchester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lila Woodard.

Lila, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was three years old, I started ballet and gymnastics classes, and when I was six, I decided that I wanted to become as flexible as possible. I started just training on my own. Three years later my sister was playing softball in a large sports tournament, known as the Cal State Games. Le PeTiT CiRqUe®, the all-kid professional humanitarian circus, performed in the opening ceremonies, and after seeing the jaw-dropping performance–from that very moment–I just knew that I had to be a part of that.

I went in for a private lesson with one of the coaches, and afterward she said that I should join their performance troupe! I have been lucky enough to train under astonishing, world-renowned circus performers–including former Cirque Du Soleil performers–and to be able to receive amazing opportunities to perform all over the world with my troupe. Since I have a fair bit of natural flexibility, my beloved coaches have helped me work really hard to become even more flexible and much stronger! My specialties include folding myself into a lucite box and shooting a bow and arrow with my feet. I also have been trained in multiple-person contortion, handbalancing on canes, aerial, dance, and tumbling/acrobatics!

Has it been a smooth road?
I am a born perfectionist, so I have definitely faced tough times being frustrated with myself. However, throughout the years I have come to realize that nobody’s perfect and no one can ask for anything more than your best.

We’d love to hear more about your work. What else should we know?
Le PeTiT CiRqUe® is the only all-kid professional humanitarian circus in the wolrd. We have been fortunate enough to be able to perform all over the world including Dubai, Montreal, Norway, and many US states, and we’ve even performed for the Dalai Lama.

What sets us apart as a company is the amount of variety we have. Our troupe has included several Guinness Book of World Record holders, as well as many aerialists, acrobats, contortionists, handbalancers, tumblers, gymnasts, jugglers, stilt walkers, globe walkers, rola bola artists, martial artists, rhythmic gymnasts, dancers, musicians, clowns, singers, cyr wheel artists, unicyclers, and so much more!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our is a GREAT place to be part of a performance company! There is a vibrant arts community here, so we are continually performing at everything from huge benefit galas to award shows to TV and film productions.
