Meet Lila Delkhah of LD and ME photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lila Delkhah.

Lila, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Professionally, I’ve been a photographer for 13 years, initially focusing on musicians, head shots, and editorial work for major publications, starting at the World Famous KROQ 106.7FM radio station. Pre-digital era working there as a programming assistant, I took full advantage of my all access passes with the purpose of just simply wanting to document this once in a lifetime experience… which to my surprise launched my professional photography career. Taking photos at the concerts, the program director of KROQ came across some of my work and hired me to be an in-house photographer. I remember thinking, “Wow, people love my work and I’m getting paid to do what I love! How lucky am I?” Beginning six years ago, I combined my passion for photography with my love of working with children and families. I also view childhood memories as rare treasures that must be captured, celebrated, and cherished forever. Being a kindergarten teacher for five years, I experienced this kind of magic every single day.

So I guess you can say I went from photographing some of the world’s biggest rock stars to the world’s most adorable babies, kids, families, and mommy to be’s… and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Has it been a smooth road?
Any passion worth pursuing, especially a creative endeavor, will definitely have its struggles. Being a kindergarten teacher was extremely fulfilling and stable so it was very scary to go out on your own with no plan B! Photography is my art and passion and this is something that I have to sell to the public, from scratch. I was fortunate to have met some amazing families from teaching who hired me as a photographer and they are still some of my best clients today, but that wasn’t a guarantee. There were times when I thought to myself, “What if people don’t like my work? What if I don’t book any shoots one month and how will I pay my bills?” In the beginning, it wasn’t easy but I was and still am so blessed to have an amazing support system around me who believed in me and my dream, which I think is crucial when going out on your own. My older sister Dina especially… She’s the best “booking agent” a girl can ask for!

Fortunately, I am now in a position where my photography is growing more and more with time. Some struggles I now encounter are fussy newborns, being spat up/pee’d/thrown up on and I love every moment of it! These are not at all “struggles” for me and I just laugh because those moments are priceless… just a hilarious occupational hazard!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with LD and ME photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in maternity, newborn, children, family, and event photography. I view each of these categories as monumental moments in my clients’ lives and I take that responsibility very seriously. I treat each session, whether it’s a newborn or a birthday party, as the most important session for myself and for my clients. In this profession, word of mouth is imperative. All I have is my reputation and without that, I wouldn’t be where I am today… This is something that I am the most proud of. They are trusting me to capture these special moments in time… there’s no take 2 and I try to give my clients exactly what I would like to get in return if I was in their shoes. I want each client to cherish these moments as their world changes and grows – that for me is the biggest success as a photographer.

What sets me apart is my rapport with children, my creative eye, and my extensive knowledge and expertise in editing and retouching professional quality images. Many don’t realize the importance of enhancing an image – my goal is to make each image look the BEST it can be! I want you to have photographs that capture your love and the beauty that is special to your family. I love seeing everything about people that makes them unique and fun. I want to tell your story in a timeless way – imagine your real love, your real life, told beautifully in photographs.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I can’t just pick one favorite aspect about LA! There is no other city in the world I would want to live in and I’m not just saying that because Los Angeles has been my home for the past 30 years! Most people would probably say it’s the weather, which of course is always amazing, but the first thing that comes to mind is the diversity… Being exposed to so many facets in terms of geography, cultures, and character realms inspires me every single day. Within a short driving distance, we have access to snow filled mountains, deserts, and beaches… all of which are breathtaking. We’re also fortunate to be exposed to such variations of backgrounds and personalities. I’m still good friends with people I’ve grown up with and known since kindergarten. Although our interests couldn’t differ more, I find myself grateful for these discrepancies as they keep me from being fixated on the “norms.”

My least favorite? The TRAFFIC… for obvious reasons.
