Today we’d like to introduce you to Libby Jason.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Libby. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Style never came easy for me. I went to 16 different schools and I was always the new girl. Frizzy hair, crooked teeth and zero confidence. My mom was a NY fashionista who tried to teach me about style, fabrics, proportion and quality but what teenager listens to her mom?? I knew I was creative but dare I express it and draw attention to myself? As a young adult, I came to realized my image was keeping me for attracting the jobs I wanted. I was being passed over for positions and worse, often not even being considered. I decided to seek a professional. I got a coach and began years of personal development. I needed someone to tell me the truth and help me unleash the real me inside. Eventually, I was able to step into my confidence by expressing myself through fashion. I went on to co-own an upscale women’s boutique in Newport Beach, CA; started a tabletop design business, and represented a skincare/cosmetic line prior to starting my own personal style business for entrepreneurs and speakers.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think we ever really learn lessons well taking the easy highway! First, I had to admit I needed help and follow through on what I was told to do. Then I had to educate myself, be willing to make mistakes and eliminate assumptions. I did a lot of “human beta testing” to see what was needed in the marketplace and what problem I could solve. For example, styling a woman who had a great figure, who was similar in size and fashion preferences to me was easy. The struggle came when women had special challenges; finding shoes for people with missing toes; people allergic to most every fabric; size 26 and up that still looked professional.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I solve fashion problems for every body type. The average woman does not know their body type nor how to dress for it and look flattering. As a Style Expert, I help women to be seen as a leader in their field, make more money and attract the clients they want by elevating their image. First impressions are created in a moment and once that moment is gone, it’s gone. I offer several Style Sessions from complete makeovers/shopping/closet audits to Virtual sessions. What I am most proud of is seeing the transformation! Seeing a woman exude more confidence whether on stage or off is gratifying. I believe I can relate to that woman inside who is hesitant, unsure and not comfortable with her body because I was once there. I want women to be the best version of themselves and believe they are worth it. In fact, after working with me, one of my clients got four new clients within a month!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Listening and learning what is most important to my clients and writing down exactly what concerns them versus transcribing into my own words. Also realizing what may be an unimportant concern for one client may be crucial to another. I’ve learned to ask LOTS of questions to truly get to know them beyond clothing and fashion. Finding out what is important to them, what do they love, where do they want to see themselves and helping them to get there. It’s almost like being on one side of the river in a boat. I paint the picture of what it would be like on the other side – and then help them get there.
