Meet LIA of Charmed Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to LIA.

LIA, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We started in the catering business in 2013. But we were often asked to plan and design the events as well; from family luaus to first birthdays and weddings, and that’s when it all started for me. For some reason, I found designing very enjoyable and CALMING, which shouldn’t be since working on events are generally stressful times. Not for me!!! Of course, I loved creating delicious dishes but I found that I got more excited on the design aspect of the event. I always planned of having an events design company, and so fast forward to now, Charmed Events came into fruition.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not easy at all!!! Having a catering business was quite challenging, having a full-time job on top of what we were doing. My business partner and I were working in the healthcare industry, she was a nurse case manager and I worked in the finance department. In fact, we still do. There was also a long period of time that I was a traveling consultant, driving to Buena Park or Torrance one day then to West LA the next day, and even as far as Las Vegas but we made it happen somehow. And now, launching Charmed Events at the time of a pandemic is possibly as challenging. It’s already hard as it is to ask for people to give you a chance and trust your business. These are definitely tough times. But I know we are all hopeful.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a full-service event design company; from the invitation suites to the centerpieces or tablescapes, the florals and more. We are a one-stop shop so the design flow is seamless and consistent. And having one source also lessens the worry of the clients, not having to check with multiple vendors. So the client, and the guests as well, can just sit back and enjoy the moment as they should.

What were you like growing up?
I’m grew up in the Philippines. I have an older brother who is 10years older, so he was a great support for many things growing up. My dad was an engineer and a teacher. My mom is a retired teacher as well so academics was a big priority in the family, and to excel was a must. Yes, I went and followed that path. But, even before we established our catering business, I already knew I wanted to be a part of the events industry somehow. My mom is also a frustrated interior designer and was the wedding planner for our family and friends. So I grew up seeing her make floral arrangements, design invitations and event spaces, and going to gown fittings with the brides. I was always in awe!!! Seeing all that and being a part of that, I know now I got the love for design and events from her.
