Meet Lexie Gomez of Love Swirls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexie Gomez.

Lexie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started this business for my kids. They were still in high school when the idea came to mind. My son, Victor was a senior & my daughter, Natalie was a junior. One day in January, I decided to tell the kids about my plans of starting a new business. I had just closed a retail store a year before.

One day we went to Redondo Beach and bought my daughter a cotton candy. I noticed people of all ages lined up to buy a cotton candy. I had started a few years back a candy bar business but it fell through. I did remember the first treat everyone would grab would be the cotton candy! And that moment the idea of taking the cotton candy to parties or events came to mind. I have a Certificate of Completion as an Event planner and it was something I wanted to pursue for long time. I knew a business where parties were involved was a great business, either planning or catering.

I decided to go for the catering venture! Instead of catering food, I decided to go something lighter for the kids to handle as well as managing and creating something more for their age. I wanted them to be young entrepreneurs before graduating High School. My goal was to teach them how to be your own boss, the thrill of taking risks, be independent, learn to be Persuasive, be creative and experience success and failure, and my main reason for them to learn how hard you need to work to accomplish goals, get through life (after high school) and learn responsibility in every aspect and everything in life that may come along the way. This was three years ago and we haven’t stopped since!

Has it been a smooth road?
It had its ups and downs the first year.

Cotton candy spun on site didn’t exist back then. We would sign up for festivals and maybe just sell two cones from an entire day! People would just pass us by!
We would leave devastated! But we never gave up!
We would always say leaving the place: “Something better will come out doing this event!”

At times we would hear comments “Really, a business making cotton candy?” “Are you playing around?” “How cute, trying to make toy cotton candy machine into a real business?”

That didn’t stop me either and kept taking the risk to keep going and I was curious how far and where this business would lead us too. It was also a chance to teach the kids, we will always have naysayers in our lives and those people shouldn’t stop us from trying and pursuing what we want to accomplish. I laugh about it now, our days as first time vendors and how much we have grown and learned! Our first few private parties we catered were half the price of our rates, we worked non-stop but it was all worth it. We were able to create a clientele from sweet kids to celebrities and have met amazing event planners.
It’s been word of mouth and I truly believe it’s from how we show our LOVE to people and how we treat each one of our guests how special they are to us.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Love Swirls – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
LOVE SWIRLS is a company that specializes in making your party SWEET!! With our cute confectionary mobile pop-up cart, Love Swirls offers yummy vegan, kosher organic & non-organic cotton candy – freshly spun on site at your special event!

Our LOVE has expanded with other sweet treats such as popcorn & snow cones! Also capturing LOVE SHOTS & making memories with our photo booth!

We carry very unique flavors and what separates us from other cotton candy are our toppings! Everyone has a choice to garnish the cotton candy with sprinkles and our favorite and everyone’s – Tajin!!
We came up with that to give the sweet flavor a kick! Adding Tajin has been a success.

Now with the business, I have had the amazing opportunity to give back. Every year since we started we give back to the Children Hospital & to the Children Miracle Network! I feel it’s very small what I give back to the huge amount of gift they gave me one day saving my own kids.

It’s something that makes me so happy & proud I can finally give back to them. I’m forever grateful to the Children’s Hospital.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I LOVE LA!!!

From the streets to their amazing views! The culture, the art, the weather, the glitz and glamour.

With Love Swirls we have had the opportunities to be part of many fun events where the locations have views that are just spectacular and breathtaking! Many amazing venues as well!

We’ve been from very low key and calm & mellow events from loud and wild1! And we have LOVED each & one of them!

“There’s movers, shakers, trendsetters, game changers and more of the most interesting and influential people.”

It’s a fun city and everywhere we go, everyone have been so amazing to us! It’s been a sweet ride!
