Meet Lexie David of ALEXIEVENTS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexie David.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lexie. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
After being a freelancer coordinating events both locally and internationally (corporate/social/private events and trade shows), I founded ALEXIEVENTS®️ in 2012, in Paris, London in 2015 and open the Los Angeles headquarters three years ago. We are specialized in event production and wedding planning. The event & wedding industries evolved a lot these past few years; it is one of the reasons why we decided to create  ALEXIEVENTS®️ Concierge Department.

◦ Every single event is unique, and every customer deserves to feel special, whatever their budget is and the occasion they want to celebrate, a birthday party, a private chef dinner experience, a product launch.. from ten to a thousand guests, we make a point to provide the same level of service, attention to details and dedication to delivering what the clients expect from a company like ours. Before being a business owner, I used to be a tour leader and guided tours for various agency, right after my degree in tourism, so I speak French, English, and Spanish. I am passionate about architecture and history.

Why did I choose to open a branch here in Los Angeles?
My husband and i are world travelers and every time we were in Los Angeles we had the feeling to be home, so we decided to take a leap and moved to L.A, following OUR American dream.

Los Angeles, the city of angels, where nothing is impossible, you can actually either enjoy a city life, living close to the beach, or enjoying the mountain landscape, it’s fantastic!

I am grateful every single day to be able to work and live here, even if I missed the Parisian life sometimes, it’s a great experience and more important I am sharing all of this with my husband. I met Thomas in Paris (we were both Event coordinators on a three months roadshows for a French car maker). We did get married in Venice (Italy) it was our first destination as a couple but Los Angeles was our first long-flight destination…

So I think it was our destiny to live here. The industry is very different from Europe in the USA, especially the wedding planning field. I am so thankful for all the opportunities and customers we meet t.

Besides planning, designing and managing events, I have two passions: sports and fashion.  I am running at least twice a week, practice yoga and some fitness on the beach. My favorite thing is to go for a sunset on the beach doing yoga (the beach is one block from ALEXIEVENTS®️ HQ in Santa Monica).

Fashion is my passion, I had the chance to work with talented designers all around the world from photoshoots to runways. Nowadays it is more like a hobby in my busy life, a little bit of an artistic time for me where I can express myself and play around.

I love to collaborate with new people, and it’s how I met Sandy. 🙂

Has it been a smooth road?
Aah, I never met someone who had a smooth road in our industry, and in fact, it would be boring and less fulfilling. I believe in learning the hard way, learning from mistakes is good, as long as you never make the same mistake twice.

Being a black women entrepreneur, it’s a lot of compromises and struggles every day because you need to work twice more to prove that your work deserves attention and recognition even if you took the same risks to build your business than another woman or man. I find my strength in positive thinking and collaboration over competition.
I think it is important to respect and admire your competitors because you evolve with them too, but most important there is a market for everyone.  My french touch is a huge plus for my clientele who love the European style we bring into their projects.

Starting a new business in another continent was one of the biggest challenges of my life but it was my choice, Because I needed it! I loved my Parisian life and had great clients in Paris but I needed more, and I am proud to have found the strength to change my life and being in immersion and restarted from the beginning.

We just celebrated ALEXIEVENTS®️’s 3rd anniversary in America, every entrepreneur will tell you that it is the most difficult year, the third, so, wish us good luck. 🙂

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are an event producing & wedding planning agency and we have our own private concierge department.  We provide bespoke services, and we are able to work with any budget. When you work with a high-demanding clientele (even with unrealistic requests), you never say “No” but you make everything you can to respond to the actual request.

The most difficult is not to take personally any objection or critic because sometimes there are pertinent even if you don’t want to admit it. I am always enjoying the planning process, from styled shoots to pop-ups, I like having the possibility to switch field Corporate or weddings.  Because I started by planning corporate/social/sports events and then because weddings are very personal and usually very emotional.

This is one of the reasons why I don’t work with every couple we meet, I need to feel that there’s a great connection between them so I can embrace the energy, I feel I wanna be a part of their story. I remembered refusing to plan a wedding because the couple thoughts it was a solution to resolve their problems… and the couple broke up six months prior to the wedding date.

Even if, business is business, a planner is passionate about what she’s doing, so it’s important for me to stay true to this principal even if it’s mean not bring in the account.  Fun fact, the bride above is now a close friend and thank to for my honesty, she is actually getting married next year. 🙂

I am proud  to do what I do. Nowadays, it’s a privilege to enjoy your job. It is why I always worked on industries (tourism, movies, hospitality, wedding) where there’s no limit of working hours, a new day is a new client, you know when you are getting out the bed but you never know when your day ends…

At ALEXIEVENTS®️ we are all in!

I am proud and thankful to work with such talented brands. From the French Tennis Tournament, international product launch to fashion shows in the middle of the desert, I have so many stories. My European experience is my best asset in this industry, we are all talented, passionate and professionals, some of the other planners are friends but I think I am a natural stress-free person, and in my job, it’s very helpful. There is no problem, only solutions!. And when there is nothing you can do, then, accept it and move forward.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
ABSOLUTELY! I LOVE LA

First of all, Los Angeles is an amazing city with such a great energy. Anything is possible here, and I don’t know how to explain this attraction. Maybe it’s due to the fact that most people who live here decided to come here to work hard, and make their dream come true.

I discover a fabulous networking here and a “COLLABORATION over COMPETITION” in the wedding industry. I am a part of an amazing wedding professionals community “Styled Shoots Across America” where I met and worked with so talented vendors and photographers.

In L.A people can embrace a culture and be a part of it, and it completely change your Los Angeles experience, from Downtown Art district lofts to Los Feliz hipster’s Coffee shops, Beverly Hills stores to Venice Beach restaurants, so many different ambiances, whatever you feel like there will be a part of town that will suit your moods!!

And the weather is perfect (usually, lol). There is so many attractions for kids and adults in a two hour drive circle. I am a sports spirited person. I am live close to Venice/Marina Del Rey, and my office is in Santa Monica.  I love this area, I try to run twice a week on the beach from Venice Pier to Santa Monica Pier. If you are new to the area don’t miss Abbot Kinney (note that every 1st Friday of the month the street host a food truck event) and Venice Canals.  Honestly, I am never tired of this landscape, if you are a surf lover, I can recommend you Manhattan Beach. I am a sunset lover, so, in Lalaland wherever you are it’s so magical.

Matador Beach (Malibu) is one of my favorite spots during the low season (overcrowded during the summer), Palos Verdes has stunning views too. Hollywood hills has great hiking trails for watching the sunrise and enjoying a panoramic view of our great city.

Since I have been living here, I discovered a passion for Joshua Tree.  I can recommend @rockboundoasisretreat. (bnb). Los Angeles has so many attractions for families and couples, with friends or solo…

My husband and I love cooking but here is a short list of our favorites places who’s great for food:
Black four crepes (gluten-free). It’s a food truck, so you need to check their location of the day.
Kreation Organic is one of my favorite vegan/gluten free restaurant
Gusta (Venice) my favorite place for fresh cheese and bread…
the Chateau Marmont because it’s unique  in L.A and I live it’s architecture and stories.
If you are in Hollywood, have a drink at the Mama Shelter Rooftop
There are so different food options, and this is another argument why LA is one of the best living cities .
Whatever your dietary needs, you have everything here. And I think if you are a talented line cook, you can totally take your chances.
