Meet Lexi Donato of LDLA in Culver City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Donato.

Lexi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
LDLA is more than just a swimwear company, it is a platform to encourage women of their beloved beauty while safeguarding the environment along the way. To the core, LDLA is swimwear with intention: numberless sizing, body positive and eco-friendly with the mission to change the swim scene from a realm of insecurity to a platform of confidence.

As for me, the founder & CEO, I’m captivated by purpose. Purpose is what ignites a fire within me to withstand the sleepless night and long days of running my own business. I had an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age, and I always knew I was meant for something greater, I just didn’t know what that was. I, like most young girls, had dreams far bigger than what I thought my small town of Williamsport, Pennsylvania could handle.

So after just three years in High School, I graduated early in the pursuit of California sunshine and oh yeah, a degree. After attaining my Business Marketing degree from Azusa Pacific University, I began my professional career in HR & Communications at McDonald’s corporation at their regional SoCal office. From there, I worked in PR, Social Media & Branding for an agency.

In November 2017, I was invited to a swimwear runway show in Santa Monica, and I had felt God speak to me during the show saying “you can do this.” I chose to trust in that voice even though it seemed BIG and IMPOSSIBLE and also knowing that it would mean investing my life savings and quitting my full-time job. What I didn’t know at the time was the beauty that the brand has unfolded to be. After only eight months of business development, on September 29, LDLA launched.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve had a fair share of trials and what I like to call “fire” that I’ve gone through in my 9-5 jobs before developing my brand. The same fire that I’m so thankful for because it was necessary to shape me in that season in order to be prosperous in the next. Even a diamond must be cut to show its beauty. Those moments of struggle are the ones that have humbled me to appreciate what is now set out before me, and what has now created a beautiful story.

Please tell us about LDLA.
Based in Los Angeles, LDLA brings women elevated swim silhouettes that satisfy their inner goddess. Each item is made with intention and is suitable for all body types (sizes don’t matter here). LDLA has created the ultimate swimwear experience – numberless sizing, body positive design details, and eco-friendly fabric made from regenerated nylon.

Mission: To change the swim scene from a realm of insecurity to a platform of confidence.

Numberless Sizing:
That’s right! You are no longer confined to a number or letter to define your size; you are simply… a goddess. Stemming from the ethos that each woman was created beautifully and can be empowered, no matter her “size,” LDLA’s sizing is based on the names of goddesses. (Sizes available s-3xl and expanding on both ends of the spectrum in 2019)

Body Positive:
LDLA’s brand is centered around the power of self-acceptance. With the philosophy that every woman is “wonderfully made,” each swimsuit is imprinted with this special message, so you never forget the truth of your beloved beauty.

Eco-Friendly:
Now you can dive in without looking back. As part of the mission to make a difference, LDLA is proud to offer swimwear made with regenerated nylon. Sustainable techno-fiber fabric provides UV protection, muscle control, shape retention, two-way stretch, and is proved to be two times more resistant to chlorine than other swimwear fabrics.

I’m most proud of the impact LDLA is making to encourage women around the world. Daily we receive messages from women who’ve struggled with self-love and/or eating disorders, etc. telling us about how they resonate with the mission, love the message behind the brand and rave about their confidence level while wearing the swimwear.

Everyone has a draw to a different aspect of the brand, some love the regenerated fabric and others love the goddess-sizing and “wonderfully made” imprint.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in Central Pennsylvania, and during the fall we’d rake all the fallen leaves into a big pile and jump into them from an elevated tree stump.
