Meet Lex the Radical of Radical Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lex the Radical.

Lex, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started the brand in college back in 2015. I wanted to create something that not only reflected the things I value as an artist, but I wanted to create a space to celebrate the creative community that has inspired me over the years. Our success can be attributed to the passion of our team and our customers that have gravitated towards the vision of our brand.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road is never smooth. A lot of the struggles we’ve faced have revolved around developing an efficient system. The brand is involved with so many other things outside of just clothes that there can be a lot of moving pieces at once. From playlists to new release and special community projects, it can be a lot for our team to juggle.

Please tell us about Radical Detroit.
Radical Detroit is a lifestyle brand that was created to celebrate creatives from Detroit and other parts of the Midwest. We sell apparel, curate playlists, organize events, and develop special projects focused on lifting up our community. We’re most proud of the artists, fans, and customers that we’ve been able to connect through our platform and expose the rest of the world to the talent coming from our region. We look to create solutions through our creativity and network and that sets us apart from many other brands that are solely focused on seasonal releases.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Early on, I would have tried not to move so fast. When you have a lot of ideas flowing it’s hard not to want to get them all out. But I’ve learned patience over time and it’s definitely helped in establishing a clear direction for the brand.
