Meet Levon Muradian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Levon Muradian.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Levon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
From a very young age, I always wanted to be in a field that would allow me to show my creativity. As a child, I was always intrigued of how a camera captured moments. I decided to attend film school in the mid-2000s. There I met a few like-minded individuals and we just started to create run and gun style content for well-known musicians in Los Angeles.

Some of these musicians included: Wiz Khalifa, Tyga, YG, Nipsey Hussle, Kid ink and many more. By shooting those music videos that’s where I grasped the knowledge of film lighting and composition. However, my focus started to shift from film making to photography. I was on set of a music video one day and I just happened to pick up a camera and started to shoot one of the girls that was featured in the music video. I immediately felt that I was meant to be a photographer. That moment sparked my interest in photography in the genre of fashion. I had always admired fashion photographers such as Helmut Newton, Hans Fuerer and Richard Avedon. Through trial and error, I learned how to tell stories through photographs.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t want to be untruthful and say that it has been a walk in the park because it has not. Everyone knows if you want to work in the entertainment industry you have to have thick skin and never take no as your final answer. No matter how dishonest people can be in this harsh industry you have to stay true yourself. As a creative, you could try to stay as truthful to the style you would like to shoot, but modeling agencies or magazines might not believe in the work you produce. There will always be other photographers who try to compete with you, but the only person you should be competing with is yourself.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a fashion photographer, my company is my name and my name is my brand. The style of my work is more of a nostalgic California beachside, sun-soaked vibe. Where in my mind it’s always summertime. I focus on shooting more film photography than digital photography. I like to capture the raw essence of my subject. I have work with Playboy, Sports Illustrated and many other independent fashion publications. I have also work with many different music labels. One of the goals I always wanted to achieve was to shoot for Playboy magazine and I fulfilled it.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Traveling across Europe with my family. I got to soak in different cultures from a very young age.
