Today we’d like to introduce you to Leon Ofsky.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Possibly like a true artist; I left this until the last minute. My story is still in progress.
How I arrived in the USA is an even longer in progress story. I was born in New Zealand, traveled, and wasn’t happy at home upon my return. I won my green card in the diversity lottery program and migrated as soon as I could.
Firstly moving to Jerome, Arizona and writing my first book. Almost a year ago, moving to LA to explore art, people, and lay in the sun. My background lies in advertising, art, photography and just making things in general. I’ll be 36 in a couple of weeks, and I feel nowhere near complete with any kind of ‘story’. I’m collecting the pieces and the memories- One day I might write them down to a more complete read.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There’s no point sailing the sea of mediocrity- any story worth telling definitely has its storms.
A cluster fuck of setbacks, poisonous people, bad decisions, alcohol, lack of funds. I tend not to dwell on them. All of those things inspire as much they do destroy.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about VSSEMBLE – what should we know?
VSSEMBLE was created to bring things and people together at the right time.
-Tangible things, or imaginary.
-Real people, or characters.
-To tell stories.
-In any medium or way required.
Photography, music videos, projection, installation, experiential, motion, design, all things visual. You could just summarize and say “I make the pretty pictures”. And I do occasionally say this.
In short; if it goes on a screen- I can do it. I’m proud of the work. Proud of the clients. Something that sets us apart: I pick the clients, they don’t pick me.
-We are all myth.
-With telling and retelling myth becomes legend.
-Embellished with belief, legend becomes faith
-Faith becomes brand.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There’s too many to list. When I thought about it some more, I’d end up writing every single person’s name that has helped or guided me since my arrival in the USA. And since this isn’t a strange Oscars acceptance award where the music starts too soon…
To condense, the clients and collaborators are always friends. So, the current top 4 advocates, collaborators, clients, cheerleaders, friends and teammates are:
-Harry and Vicente at Mezcal El Silencio – @mezcalelsilencio
Trusting their vision in my hands, strongly supporting and advocating me at every turn and being one of my favorite collaborators and clients of all time.
