Meet Leana Shayefar of Arebesk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leana Shayefar.

Leana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Arebesk was born when I decided to pull my life together after having two kids and feeling out of shape both body and mind. I walked into a pilates studio nearby and took a few classes and fell in love with the workout.

I saw people wearing socks with grip for the workout and noticed how they didn’t really compliment my workout outfits. I had hung my hat up in the fashion industry after ten years in the industry and launching two previous lines of accessories and shirt line before I was married and had kids.

After strengthening my mind and body at the pilates studio, I suddenly realized I missed my old life and I missed creating products and designing. I was worried how I was going to juggle everything with two kids and thought that socks would be perfect because they are a small item I could stock easily and start a home business doing so.

After one year of prototypes and searching for a supplier every night after I put the kids to sleep, I finally found what I needed and had physical samples in hand which was the first style I launched in Jan 2018 called PHISH NET. I thought of incorporating sexy fishnet material design on a grip sock and it looked amazing so I was excited to ship it around to studios. I also developed a patent-pending wash bag included with each pair so people will not lose their socks in the wash ever again and can also use the bag as a carrying bag for their socks which has been a huge hit and a necessity in this market.

I got my first purchase order at the studio I worked out in EDEN SASSOON pilates and another chain called Pilates Platinum and they sold out quick. I knew I had something great with the response I was getting so I decided to pursue this full time and in the first year opened up 35 accounts working from home. I used my past mistakes in the industry and my knowledge of manufacturing to make sure I was going to succeed this time.

Since 2018 I have now opened over 150 accounts around the world in Pilates, barre, yoga, lagree and cycling studios as well as online retailers including Free People and Yoga Club Box who are also carrying Arebesk.

Arebesk has new styles like our Moto and now launching our new Moccasin and Fringe styles which are already flying off shelves. I am going after my dreams of one day having the largest activewear brand on the market and motivated now more than ever to succeed.

There has been so much love and support from this community of female-owned business owners who have been so supportive of this brand and I am forever grateful and in aw of how many strong and beautiful business owners are out there.

In 2020 we have a new category to add to our brand and a lot of exciting designs to offer our customers. It has been an adventure building this brand and overcoming some obstacles that I never thought I could handle but there is a demand for the designs we put out and its the customer’s and studio owner’s excitement towards our brand that keeps me going.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been smooth at all. I started with a 10K start-up and barely any marketing budget so I had to use my creativity and skills I have acquired throughout the years to hustle and run my Instagram campaign single-handed to get this brand going but with a lot of leg work and hard work things are taking off and it is possible for anyone with a limited budget to do so if they set their mind to it.

There is always an obstacle in business from manufacturing problems to legal ones that arise and you have to be ready to tackle the problems without getting to emotional or it will slow you down and break your business so I have learned to pick up the pieces quick and move forward fast in order to grow and be successful. It takes a lot of mistakes to get to this point but everything in life is a lesson learned.

Having good friends and family around you to support you is also key to maintaining the right mindset.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Arebesk story. Tell us more about the business.
Arebesk is known for designer grip socks and having the best grip on the market. Our grip is key because we use better quality silicone and larger grip so it will last longer and provide the best traction for your workout. Our wash bag helps keep silicone lasting longer and keeps your socks together in the wash so you won’t lose them and have mismatched pairs of socks in your drawers.

We are known for started trends in this market space with the launch of our sexy Phish Net in 2018, Moto grip socks in 2019 and now the launch of our Fringe and Moccasin styles in 2020 with a lot more exciting things to come.

Women love our sexy style and how our socks complement their workout outfits better which was lacking in the market. We are innovative and create products that serve a need and universal style.

You won’t get just a basic pair of socks with Arebesk you will get a one of a kind design exclusive to our brand with unbeatable quality.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see Arebesk as a leading brand in the activewear market with emphasis on Pilates, Barre, Yoga, Lagree and cycling workouts. We hope to add more categories of products that are relevant to this market space and disrupt the industry with trend on designs and innovative products.
