Meet Lavada England of House of Restoration Community Connections

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lavada England.

Lavada, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in a household where your mother and sisters utilize drugs and not truly feeling a sense of what love truly is can turn one to finding “Love” in all the wrong places.

With that being said, I ended up as a teenage mother who had her first child at the age of 16 and understood the struggles of teenage motherhood, especially when you do not have stable or willing family support.

Out of my experiences of pains, challenges, disappointments, and successes I knew that I couldn’t be the only one going through the trials which I was allowed to endure and overcome and why should I keep what could help someone else get through to myself.

Out of this, I begin to allow women and their children to live with me and my children.

On the weekends I would go around my neighborhood and leave inspirational writings on the doors. I would talk to women who felt comfortable with `talking with me and then the moment came when my spirit prompted into making what I do as a mother, “counselor,” supporter and active listener, into an organization.

After speaking with a few people, they suggested opening a non-profit where I would have the ability to talk and help as many women as God allows. Presently, I go to different organizations and speak to their women on specific topics such as; Becoming A Better You, Healthy Boundaries, Communication Tools, Etiquette, and Domestic Violence. All levels of this journey which I have had to work on, through and endure.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If this journey/road was smooth, I definitely wouldn’t be able to relate to more than half of the women which God has allowed me to mentor and help along the way. One of the most difficult struggles was getting passed the past of my former entrapped mindset. There is a difference between “Healthy Boundaries” and “Walls.” I had a lot of walls around me which needed to come down to allow me out and others in.

Breaking out of the bondage of childhood discrimination, molestation which was inflicted by men who were supposed to protect me, a drug-addict household, teenage pregnancy, being allowed to drink at a very young age and many more obstacles, I saw the greatness of God’s mercy and love in spite of the Challenges. He strengthened me to endure.

I learned that in order to meet my destiny face to face I had to be okay with embracing the rough roads and seasons and mature in the process of breaking free mentally, emotionally and physically. Self-reflecting and evaluation have allowed me to listen and dissect situations in a style of illumination as opposed to just seeing situations through my experiences.

When I finally understood that we all come from different sides of the track, in life, and that we all have something to “Recover” from, “the illumination” helped me with navigating the transitions on my road and manifested a much smoother journey.

House of Restoration Community Connections Inc – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
House of Restoration Community Connection Inc. allows me to go into organizations and educate, encourage, and empower their women. At some places, the women are working on reunifying with their children. I am able to provide resources and talk to these women to work on building them up from the inside out. When people see the word, house, it is automatically thought of as a house which one abides.

When we refer to, house, we are referring to the physical house that we abide in every day. To understand that rising to the occasion, after being separated from the normalcy of life can be very challenging and very frustrating helps me when speaking to the ladies. When the women allow the change of being “Built from the inside,” it enhances their ability to deal with emotional turbulence, their thought process, their confidence, their insecurities and much more. When applying to be “Built from the inside out” these women begin to see the help it provides when facing challenges.

I have been given the opportunity to go in and speak with these women on specific topics on very relatable levels. You know people can still call your bluff! I also teach the same classes periodically at the local library in my neighborhood. The set apart between me and many others is that not only do I truly have the heart and passion for what I do, but I have also experienced the topics that I bring to the table and have overcome! I also go in with a different mentality of not just to teach yet to be taught even though I am facilitating the class. So I ask questions and interact with the class on a relatable basis.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success often doesn’t come in a pretty package. Success definitely requires consistent footwork and planning.

Success is never giving up and pressing through in spite of others not seeing nor understanding your vision. I have had to focus so intensely on completing goals towards my purpose so much so to where I found myself saying no to people that I would usually, say yes to.

Success is when you are satisfied with the final! When I can sit back, relax and enjoy the beauty and satisfaction of my project. I cannot move on until I am satisfied. I cannot express that success and satisfaction are imperative before I can truly say I have met my goal.
