Meet Lauren Pardini of Los Angeles Vocal Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Pardini.

Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been making music my entire life. I started piano at age three and was singing daily in the church by the time I was six. After attending NYU for college, I relocated to Los Angeles to get my Master’s in Music from Thornton School of Music at USC where I received a Teaching Assistantship.

It was here that I really figured out who I was as a musician. I knew I wanted to focus on songwriting (primarily electronic music) and I also realized I had all the skills and experience to be a vocal coach. In 2009, I started Los Angeles Vocal Studio where I teach singing, songwriting, and piano online and in person.

In the past few years, I had two great projects in addition to my teaching. I was part of an electronic band, Pr0files, and we played countless shows in LA. Our music was on Spotify’s New Music Friday four times, and we developed a wonderful core of fans. After that project cooled down, in 2018, I added to my music degrees with a certificate in Audio Engineering from Musicians Institute (where I am also on the faculty.) I really did it because I’d been in the studio my entire life and still felt I didn’t know as much as I should have.

In addition, I constantly hear people discussing how there are very few women behind the scenes in music and wanted to empower myself with the degree. I’m really glad I did that because it has elevated Los Angeles Vocal Studio for me. I’m able to teach my students Logic, Protools and Ableton (music recording software) as well as help to record their songs for them. I also find that a lot of women look to me for advice on the recording process because they feel comfortable asking me.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been smooth, fortunately. I’d say the hardest part was getting started (as with all businesses). When I began LAVS, I had to work part-time in different jobs until people knew about me. Somedays I’d work in a finance job at 6 am and then head to teach afterwards at another music school til 8. Then I’d go play gigs or get to recording sessions. I’m grateful I took advantage of all that energy in my 20’s!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Los Angeles Vocal Studio is a music school that offers music lessons and songwriting workshops in-person on and online. I specialize in pop/indie music, and this is why many students come to me. As an artist, my professional experience is in electronic music, and hip-hop and many students come to me because of my real-life experience.

I think what sets me apart from others it that I have many music skills, ranging from playing the piano to singing, songwriting or setting up a rig on Ableton. I even have a portable recording studio for students that want me to record them in their homes. I think most importantly, my style of teaching helps me to stand out.

For example, if I see a student is learning to play a Billie Eilish song on piano from youtube videos, I’ll incorporate this into the traditional material we are learning. It’s very important to me that the student stays inspired. I really don’t see the point in pushing a student away from what they’re drawn to.

I’ll expose them to other styles because you never know what might pique their interest, however, I find that if they came to me with a passion my job is to make it grow!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is ideal for anyone in music. There is an array of performing opportunities here -whether professional or hobby- so many great singers need help getting in shape.
