Meet Lauren Papillion

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Papillion.

Hi Lauren, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a native of Suffolk, Virginia better known as the 757. My passion for the fashion industry and inspiring others is what makes me thrive. The L. Simone Company LLC was birthed through my post-graduate struggle of being let go from a job. When I relocated to D.C., I was eager to start my career and define myself as an expert in the field. However, on the 90th day of employment, my position was cut from the agency and I felt like I was left with nothing to offer myself. The reality of the situation sparked my interest in entrepreneurship and having a serious side hustle that I was passionate about. So, in 2017, I started market research on owning an online boutique and spent two years developing and nurturing my brand privately. In April 2019, I launched L. Simone Co. the boutique with a mission to provide multifaceted fashion to women in the boardroom and beyond. My mission stems from the fast-paced lifestyle of a woman in the city and the many faceted of her life. When you are in the city, you always have to be ready to network and be on the scene. The best way to transition drab office attire is by having a fashion that can take you from business to mogul or business to baddie. L. Simone Co. offers women with various backgrounds a variety of looks to fit into any occasion life has to offer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
L. Simone Co. is currently a one-woman show. As the owner, I manage the website, create social media graphics, follow up with customer leads, manage inventory, and mail, pack, and ship orders. While I love the hustle and bustle of my business, I would like to be able to focus more on the business side of my brand outside of the day-to-day operations. I have goals that I would love to see come to fruition for my business but I am learning to enjoy the small integral part of having a small business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Alongside working full time for the federal government, I also have a Online Publications company called, L.Simone Co PR. Under L. Simone Company. LSimoneCo PR provides freelance website design, graphics design, and business coaching services for those looking to launch their business or brand.

I have a collegiate background in the communication career field. I manage diverse portfolios inside and outside of my full-time job. In an effort to always keep communications fun and excited, I started promoting my website design business and my public relations services. In doing that, I have helped over 23 businesses launch their brands and adding more to my portfolio. I am so happy to be a part of black millennials starting their business!

What sets me apart from the average entrepreneur is that I am able to really do it all while pouring into the women around me through mentorship.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
What people don’t know is that I was 99% sure I was going to close up my boutique and services at the end of 2019! I became emotionally overwhelmed with trying and failing phase. I had just finished grad school and I was just simply tired. I went almost two months without sales and I was broken up about it. I ended up taking a trip to Dubai in January 2020 and I meditated on my life there. In some way, it recharged my focus and I ended up recreating my whole business model and made plans to get back in the game! It felt like an awakening.

I believe moments like that happen to all business owners and it’s definitely okay! It’s okay to pause but it is never okay to quit at something you’re passionate about.

The results of my rebrand ended in consistent sales and growth as a small business owner.
