Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Gropper.
Lauren, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I know this sounds cliché, but I’ve always been driven by the opportunity to create a positive impact and to do well by doing good. I’ve been passionate about sustainability my whole life and I spent my career in the sustainable design field — in architecture, film, and TV production. When I learned it was possible to create plastic from plants, I was so inspired that I decided to make the crazy leap into entrepreneurship, and Repurpose was born!
Has it been a smooth road?
We’ve had so many struggles – it’s hard to pin down the biggest ones! There are so many challenges – in every area of the business – raising money, product development, production, sales, marketing, logistics…there are always issues and challenges that seem to come up. I think we’ve been successful for the most part because of the way in which we’ve addressed these challenges and come through stronger on the other side!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Repurpose – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Repurpose is an LA-based company that makes compostable tableware from plants for the consumer retail market. We’re on a mission to reduce the amount of plastics in the environment and offer high quality, durable, and guilt-free renewable alternatives. 6,000 stores carry Repurpose products, and we were recently recognized by INC Magazine as one of the fastest growing consumer companies in America.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I LOVE the weather and the access to the outdoors and the great food.
I don’t like how spread out everything is and how long it can take to get across the city!
