Meet Laura Jesson of Lessons with Laura in Simi Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Jesson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Laura. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve played violin and viola for most of my life and it’s been such a joy to be able to be a professional musician today. When I graduated from university with a music degree, I knew I wanted to pass along the joy of music to others through performing as well as through teaching. I wanted to inspire people in my life and give the gift of music that I had been given. Music has been such a huge wonderful part of my life that I wanted to be able to pass along to others. As a child, I was so happy that I was given the chance to learn violin. I wanted to be able to teach music lessons to kids in ways that each individual child learns best. I decided to open my own business of teaching private violin and viola lessons in 2014.

I started a website and launched my business Lessons with Laura to let people know my goal of giving music lessons. I started teaching people of all ages and levels and realized my passion for teaching. I love music and teaching violin and viola is a lovely way to share music.

Has it been a smooth road?
The best part about teaching is that I am always learning how to teach music better. A struggle that comes up sometimes is when a child gets discouraged by the difficulty of learning violin. My first job of teaching is to encourage the child as a person and affirm their unique strengths.

Secondly, my job as a teacher is to find the way that the child learns best and cater towards their learning style. It is a triumph of the journey to discover the way that each child best understands and can improve at their own pace.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lessons with Laura – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I teach violin and viola lessons to people of all ages, specializing in the Suzuki method of learning. I am known for working with all ages and levels and finding ways to teach every personality and type of person.

What I am most proud of is being the sole owner and founder of my business and starting my company from scratch three years ago.

What sets me apart from other music teaching companies is that I am positive, personable and flexible. I work with any level of student and encourage them towards the best music player they can be.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
My favorite thing about our city is diversity in people and how that is celebrated and loved. What I like least about our city is the hectic traffic and crazy chaos of rush hour.
