Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Gaddo.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a freelance social media creator. However, this is not where I started. I was born and raised in Trento, a small town in Northern Italy. After getting a degree in Construction Management and working for an Italian interior design company, it became clear after some time that I needed to expand my horizons. So, coming to that conclusion, I gathered my belongings and decided to come to Los Angeles to break into the California luxury building market. With my extensive background in European finishes and sense of aesthetic, I started working successfully in that field. After a few years, and with the help of a business partner, we opened a high-end showroom specializing in importing the finest flooring and building materials from Italy and all over Europe. To better showcase our services and materials and with the goal of promoting the business, I started developing a passion for marketing, branding and ultimately photography.
As we know it today, social media was not fully developed at that time and surely not used to promote business. I, on the other hand, had the task of communicating my new life to my friends and family back in Italy and that need sets me on a new path. I started taking photos, writing, finding the perfect words to describe an emotion, a place, a new flavor that I was discovering. I was telling them my life – MY STORY – through pictures. Various social media platforms eventually came along and became for me, the only way to participate in the day to day life back in Italy. I was able to see what my friends and family did back home, and it helped me feel connected to them. It was then I started to notice that companies were beginning to capitalize on social media in the same way to gain new customers as well as solidify the relationships with the existing ones. I first started doing it for my own business and a couple of others along the way, but it was only after moving to Orange County that I decided to make it a career.
I love helping businesses find their online voice. We all have a story to tell and whether established or new, need to connect with customers more than ever and the ability to project your image through pictures is a great tool that allows you, regardless of location, to do just that. Social media allows you to open your doors to business even if you do not have real doors to open. To me, that is fascinating and the reason why I chose this profession. I am still involved in interior design services and am currently collaborating with one of my best friends in Italy. Can you guess how we keep in touch and share our work?
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Convincing owners and professionals on how important investing in their online presence is can be challenging at times. There seems to be a misconception that you should be able to handle this, or anything else for that matter, on your own, not realizing that when you bring a professional into the picture, you not only free yourself from the responsibility, you will have more time to concentrate on the core of your business, you gain more business than you thought you could.
I pride myself on finding consistent authenticity in my work and in what I create, especially when representing a brand or company with their own unique identity and needs. Whatever the challenge may be, I always subscribe to the motto, “there are no problems, only solutions.”
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a full-service digital content creator who will help your business build and grow an online presence. Whatever product, store, or service you want to promote, I capture the most appealing imagery to showcase online, either by developing original photos with product styling or by adding a fresh spin to your current imagery.
We then provide the customer with a monthly calendar of social media content specifically curated to showcase their brand at its best. Depending on the client’s needs, we can also create captions that tell their story and generate more engagement. After that, we create a mood board so that they can see the direction of the campaign we envision. Much like an interior designer, I work with the client to create a palette and mood for their brand that carries on month after month. The result is a cohesive brand image designed to convert the engagement into sales.
As for what sets me apart from others, I think my European background provides more of a worldview. But ultimately, I think it is my sincere interest in truly getting to know my clients, hearing their motives behind starting their businesses and finding the message they want to send to the consumer.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I spent my childhood and my teenage years in Italy, so I would say the best memory is been with my friends strolling around the piazza talking about big dreams and how to achieve them.
