Meet Lanieya Obando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lanieya Obando.

Hi Lanieya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Our business is still a work in progress, we are small but still growing everyday. LaMarie SKin was created in my bedroom, I was always really into skincare and exfoliating, I have sensitive skin myself and many products either always made me dry or breakout and as I got older, I realized not many people, women really knew the importance of exfoliating and moisturizing and honestly it surprised me. I started making my own diy products for myself and my family started using them and would tell me how great they made them feel. So I did a deep dive of oils and butters good for the skin, when covid kit I finally got the guts to launch so I made a website, a few business card with the money I had and started buying containers. One year later and here we are.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely a struggle, my biggest struggle really is finding a way to get my business out there and getting sales. I’m not really a social media bird so posting everyday is actually very hard for me. A few times along the way there’d be months with no orders and it definitely was discouraging. I’d also had issues with I’d want to make more products but I didn’t have the money so I’d stress myself out cause I wanted to add more products to my line but was putting out more money than bringing in and I expected that. I didn’t expect to blow up overnight but I also was discouraged because I’d see businesses that were just thrown together and here I am putting in so much thought into my products, and packaging and I could barely get one sale.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create body care products; body and lip scrubs, lip balm, body butters, body oils and truly cater to those with dry skin. I help people naturally rehydrate their skin our products are made with skin loving oil that helps the skin hydrate and get that moisture it’s been lacking. Our products contains oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, and rosehip seed oil. My favorite product is the coffee scrub, it’s so underrated because people don’t really like the smell of coffee but the benefits it produces and the outcome is so amazing. The coffee is a natural and gentle exfoliant it helps with the appearance of cellulite and razor bumps and the oil is a great moisturizer. You literally won’t need lotion after using this one.

Our biggest seller is the Koko Kashmere Body Butter. It’s made with a trifecta of betters and helps with the appearance of stretch marks and ultimately it smells amazing!

What sets us apart from other lines is we actually put our soul into these products. Everything is handmade, I’ve created all the recipes myself I make everything myself and everything is literally handle with love. I use the products myself and I test them for months before dropping to make sure they not only work for me but others too.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Not necessarily due to Covid but I did learn the people don’t believe they deserve off days and days to pamper themselves. Everyone is so focused with just getting by and wanting to do so many things in the day they don’t ever take a second the smell the roses and relax. I have so many customers who would buy and I’d reach out to them weeks after the purchase and they’d say they haven’t had the time to try the products because they’ve been so busy and haven’t had the extra 2 minutes to exfoliate or put on lotion and it’s sad. Everyone deserves a pamper day.
