Meet Lani Taylor of Mobot Nation in Venice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lani Taylor.

Lani, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always find myself doing crazy things. Growing up in a competitive family of boys in Australia I was always trying to keep up, compete and even win (occasionally)!

This strengthened my competitive edge, but I think that’s the point of life, to constantly challenge yourself and feel inspired to try new things. When I was a little girl, I watched my father wither with a serious illness. My dad was my hero, but he became unrecognizable to me. A part of me was crushed, mostly because I couldn’t save him. This had a profound effect on me, and my career path, as I became obsessed with health, hydration, and movement.

As I grew up, I pursued my dream of competing as a professional water skier. Whilst trying to look the part, I confused appearance with health. This lead to a very well-hidden eating disorder. I was hospitalized age 18 with a multitude of health issues. This left me searching for more sustainable ways to be healthy, look good and feel good, as I embraced a broader definition of beauty.

I have spent the last 12 years traveling as a sports therapist, yoga instructor, and wellness coach. I moved to LA for business four years ago and stayed for the traffic and dating!

My innovation to combine a stainless-steel water bottle with a foam roller was to (re)meet basic human needs: hydration and connection. Motivation to drink more water, stay in shape, and reduce plastic pollution. I knew the world did not need another water bottle, it needed a better one, I created the MOBOT to be impressive in both form and function.

It’s been an epic journey, filled with many daring adventures across the globe inspiring not only myself but others to discover their own path to wellness. I may have even persuaded a gangsta’ or two to drink more water and roll!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I guess you can say it’s been more like a dirt road and I’m still paving my path! There have been many obstacles along the way but one of the biggest hurdles was the cultural differences. When I look back, moving across the Pacific was rationally optimistic because I moved to America with two suitcases and knowing only two people intent on building a brand. So, put it this way… there was unexpected turbulence and I wasn’t wearing my seatbelt.
